I'm beginning to plan another trip to the mountains over the summer and wanted to see if there are any suggestions for the best lakes in the mountainous NC and SC areas. I'm looking for a small to medium sized lakefront house in the $1000 to 1500/week range. Lake Jocassee has caught my interest so if anyone has rented there, please share info! Thanks

Good site- thanks for the link. Lake Keowee looks like a good one too on there with more listings.

last i heard, jocasse was part of duke power and there was no development. jocasse outfalls into keowee where there should be ample rentals. lake levels fluctuate due to power generation, so be sure and check it out.

Check out Fontana lake in W. NC, excellent scenery and freaky deep in some places.

I was there last year! I was staying on Lake Santeetlah and we went over to Fontana for a day. It is amazing. No homes on it from what i could tell- near the dam at least. Yes, it was very, very deep. The depth finder just flashed 400 in certain areas since it doesn't register beyond that apparently.
