View Full Version : Motor swap

I am replacing a Ford 351 for a chevy. The motor comes with front motor mounts to fit the ford footprint. It also comes with a top mounted starter. I am a little concerened that the starter might be tight on clearance around the engine cover. Has anyone on here done this type of repower? BTW this is a 1990 prostar190.

thanks jeff

i replaced a ford with a mercruiser MPI ski motor in a 87 PS 190. was a tight fit but what a hot rod when done. the mercruiser had the starter in the standard position though. we fabricated new mounts all clearances were pretty tight. have you tried to put motor in temporary to check for proper clearence?

What MPI motor did you put in your boat the 375hp or the 425hp?

Well I pulled off the swap. if you wana see pics go to my *total refurbish am i stupid* thread. There were some complications. I had to get new exaust, the silencer was in the way of the top mount starter. And the oil filter bracket had to be modified to clear the engine cover. I cant wait to sea trial it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
