What type of fluid do you all use in your tranny's? Going to change mine on my new(for me) boat today. It has the Borg Warner velvet drive 1:1 in it.

I know my location, just don't know what is the best brand/grade of fluid to use.

Dexron fluid for your transmission.
Not sure what to recommend for your tranny.......

We sometimes refer to the transmission as the tranny and I didn't see the humor in it till now!! :o Do I just use the same as I would in a car transmission? How many quarts will it hold?

Its a running joke on here........ :D
My manual indicates 1.3 quarts, same fluid as a car.

1.3 Wow that isn't much fluid at all! I was guessing about 3 quarts. Thats why they make manuals though. How often do you chage it? I was thinking once a year.

I think the manual tells you 100 hrs.
Just take note of the amount you remove and replace that amount. Then check the fluid..

Guess we better double check, what year and transmission model number. My manual is a mid 80's and the transmission is listed as a 71-C and is mounted at a 15 degree angle.

thought it was 2 quarts for 1.1, most tranny fluids now are covered with the new brands..."works in all tranny's that require DEXtron I-V, ATF etc."

I guess it may vary depending on the cooler and ose lengths. Best is to go by the dip stick.
