Ok, I did my due diligence and searched till my eyes crossed, but I couldn't find any poduction numbers for 1977. Jim @ BAWS stated 100 boats in 1973, but thats the only reference I found to production numbers for the Stars and Stripes boats. Somewhere out there someone should have a number tucked away. My curiousity is getting the best of me.

Having to do my own bumping here. Surely someone here has some idea of production numbers from 1977. Or am I breaking the rules and risking being whacked by a moderator?

No idea....I'd love to know the numbers for 1983 while they have the books out :)

Jay, so far seems to be a well kept secret. I was hoping to find production numbers when I got the 40th anniversary coffee table book, but was actually a little disappointed in its content. A lot of interesting info, but I was hoping for more company history. There must be someone out there with those numbers.

I was told in 82 they made about 1000 if that helps any.

Some of the Mods here are Trigger Happy with a hair trigger to say the least. ;)

Got the book too...a letdown to a point when it comes to actual company history. TMC#1 would be the best bet on numbers. Why such a secret on these figures?

Thanks for the info Ski King...where/how did you get this info? I had a friend in grade school, his dad had a yellow/gold S&S. Loved that boat. I think it was an 83, did not have the fold up mirror featured on the 82.

Darn TMCNo1, I figuired you would be the guy with the answers. I suspect you are holding out on me because my boat has a glass swim platform. Not only that, but the previous owner covered it with carpet when he replaced the floor and carpet in the boat.

A group of skiers from our area bought a whole truck load back in 77. Six boats delivered to their respective owners from the same semi on the same day. I need to see if any of them have pics of the event that I can scan and post. Two of them still have the boats from that day.

My S & S is a 75 and I would also be interested to know how many were produced. From the begginning to 80 or so would be fun to see.

C36 post= MasterCraft Skier/ProStar/ProStar 190: A History (1968-2009) says that in 1968 12 boats were produced and in 1973 52 boats were produced. I would still like to know how many were produced in 75???????????

ok from what i can gather from this thread including mine i can verify that there were at least 3!

Maybe we could back into the data by finding someone with a late run hull number for that year......mine my be a good candidate.....when i get a chance i will look at my HIN and see how many came before me ...

My serial # MBC BA1 19 M77M-2 If I am correct, this makes mine the 27th boat manufactured in 1977.

Does anyone know what the -2 denotes? When I registered the boat, the state of Wisconsin wouldn't even take my HIN with the -2.

CameronCarey

MBC AE 319 M77D-2 is mine..........i think that you may be off 100, i took mine to be the 319th hull

my engine is the Escort 351 that's the difference in the engine code.

the -2 had me scratching my head too..........i know my boat has been registered in AL and FL i suspect since new

ok so re reading several posts i realize that i have no idea how to read a serial number as old as mine and the previous statement on my part was most ceartinly not a correct interpretation of my Hull Number...

Im a bit supprised there hasnt been more traffic on this one.........lots of 77s on the message board

Mine is hull number 419. So you are up to at least 4 boats for sure, and possible 419.

My understanding of the HIN decoding goes like this:

MBC MasterCraft Boat Co.
BA1 Serial number
19 19 skier
M ?
77 Model year
M ?
-2 ?????????????????

No one seems to be willing to tell me where to find the secret decoder ring to really find out what these numbers really mean.

No reason to let this thread die without resolution, looks like we need some expert intervention.......or someone with allot later serial numbers. so far we verified 4 total were manufactured right?

Maybe we should post a more appetizing thread like.............."If you have a silver windshield frame and tracking fins on your Stars and Strips raise your hand and say your color"

Maybe there were only 4 built in 77? Could have been an off year?

CameronCarey

If so that makes the 77 a limited edition..............previously i thought we were just limited to a silver windshield frame, Molded Dash Tracking fin combination.

Honestly im a big surprised that no one from TMC has production numbers on the older hulls. wonder if it was reported in a financial fileing somewhere

So you are suggesting that we take them down like Al Capone? Work them over and find the info or realize that they never paid their taxes and use that as leverage to get them to cough up the production info?

I did send MC an email last fall asking if there was any info available and it was never returned.

I hope I didn't end up on some sort of list.

I was hoping there may be an annual report of some sort which says number of boats delivered kind of thing.................that's way too optimistic........and way too simple.........but a thought none the less

Get ready Phil, email's will be flying in after this 8p

If anyone is looking for the production numbers of S&S, (hence the thread) send an email and I said EMAIL
(NO PM's) to our TTAdmin Phil Walker.

phil.walker@mastercraft.com

He personally told me, he'd research the production numbers made of the particular year and model in question.
I only ask that you please be patient for a response.

On the TMC Team talk forum a question popped up about how many Stars and Stripes Models Were Produced in 1977. Any information you could provide on the subject (production numbers, colors, engine packages) would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for your time"

Bellinghamster has both a silver windshield frame and 3 tracking fins, plus a molded dash. Silver hull and leather-pattern deck gelcoat with blue metalflake stripe... but is titled as a '78 with a HIN of '79.

There goes the neighborhood...............did you polish your windshield frame or did someone else do it to impersonate a 77

Hi Cameron,

I appreciate your being patient with us-

We did not have exact production records that go back to the early days.

However, I spoke with one historian here who has dedicated his working life to building MasterCraft boats - Cotton Welshan. He was cool enough to give us a range (see below).

It would be great to own a mint S&S '77-

Thanks in advance,
Phil

a long time ago, we were probably building one and half, two boats a day,350-500 that year. hope this helped out

================================================== =======================
So between 350 and 500 boats is the best they can ballpark it.

still seems like a low production number to me.

TMCNo1
07-23-2009, 10:34 AM
That doesn't sound that far off. A member on here has a 1972 and according to the old HIN's issued at that time, his boat was the 345th built by MC, so with the increase in production over the next 5 years, that's sounds about right.

Wow that's an Awesome looking boat, Is it titled as a 77?

that black windshield frame looks like a later model

astepka
07-23-2009, 11:05 PM
Yes, it is a 1977. The original owner told me that "HE" painted the windshield frame black. I don't know if he did it, or he had a body shop do it?? No matter who sprayed the paint, I think it looks great with the black carpet and rub rail, etc. It's a good match.

Nope, it's original silver, not paint-removed/polished... although no guarantees that someone didn't replace a black one with a previous model year silver some time earlier in it's life.

Cameron,

Clearly your threat to look into company records did the trick!!!

Seriously though, very interesting to hear how few boats were built in '77. Thanks for sending the email that got the answer. Hopefully this will also lead us to a definite decoding of the HIN.

CameronCarey
07-24-2009, 09:01 AM
Interesting information up to this point, we might need to just create a 77 S&S thread. Since it Was the first year of this hull there are lots of funny nuances...............the Escort Engine for example............and somewhere here there is a 77 with an Escort 302....stranger yet.

I think bellinghamsters 77 style silver windshield frame makes his boat a 77 "Clone" LOL

Mine has a 302, but was repowered with a mercruiser inboard engine. There is enough original equipment missing from my boat that it will never be a restoration, just another nice old MC.

Now if we could just learn what the serial number breaks down to.

Mine wont be a restoration either, New Gauges, Steeringwheel, Interior Layout, and hopefully a new rub rail..........all will make it a nice resto mod.......

No idea on the Serial number...i dont even have a good theoretical decoding
