I bet it will be just north of $400K once outfitted properly (nav/radar/etc.). My father in-law has had two Sea Rays in the 28' range and by the time you start adding the stuff you need, the price goes up fast. On some of these boats (25'-35' range), you can spend $20K+ on canvas alone.

Just at the show fri and sat and here are some pics. They had an X55, X45 and the smaller csx at the marina and at the convention center they had an X14, X55 and of course the 300. The mastercraft area was constantly crowded unlike many other vendor areas. Definitely a big buzz around the new 300.

I doubt that........But who the heck knows.

What I wonder is how someone will stumble across the 300 when looking for a 30 foot cruiser? At least around here nobody will know it exists. The people buying these things that dock them at the Cape, the Vineyard, Newport RI, etc. gotta at least get targeted somehow.

jdl xstar
02-16-2009, 11:46 AM
From what they were telling me, they are targeting the market of people who are "downsizing" from the 40'+ yacht who still want the features you would only find in a large yacht but dont want to deal with the excess size and everything else that goes with having a larger boat. Sort of like empty nesters from the burbs who look for a very stylish oceanfront condo. They had some sort of sales board next to the boat and as of mid day sat there was 1 sale from the show so there must be some people out there who fit this demographic.

Sodar
02-16-2009, 12:00 PM
Looks like they did a nice job with it. There are not many (read about 2) manufacturers who build a 30' boat with diesels AND v-drives. Most boats in this size are not built with quality in mind and many typically come only with Bravo Three or DuoProp configurations. Anyone who leaves their boat in the water, especially salt water, knows that outdrives have a hate-hate relationship with being in the water full time.

The only thing I am not sure of how it will catch on is the progressive and innovative look. It is certainly something that only time will be able to tell. My grandparents would have fit this demographic perfectly when they downsized from their boat, but I cannot see my 75 year old granddad driving around in something this "modern" looking. Maybe if this boat was done up in a little more conservative gel scheme it would catch the attention of the elders downsizing from their yachts into something more manageable without a full time captain and deckhand.

MasterCraft definitely did a nice job with this, though. The helm is like nothing I have seen before. The stainless rails, cleats, anchor, etc. screams quality and class. The engine compartment is clean and looks easily accessible for routine maintenance. The painted satelite domes and radar array is a really nice touch that you only typically see on bigger and much more expensive boats.

Any pics of the interior?

It was so crowded the whole time i was only able to stick my head into the interior. It was small but really nice compared to the other interiors. Hopefully MC will put up some photos of the interior. But here's what I was able to get:

Behind the brown door on the left is the bathroom.

44628

Check out the sliding back rest... Hard to see but next to my shoulder behind me there is an LCD that raises and lowers into the granite right behid the captains chair. Also a little gas grill built in. Between the radars is a small camera that displays on the dash and can be viewed from the other 2 tv's. Many many over the top quality extras..

The sun pads can recline or lie flat on the bow.

I wish MC all the best in selling this craft, but I think in this economy it is going to be a very slow mover. I find it a bit disturbing that while MC is launching several new and very $$ boats that they have laid off the entire customer serivce group. Folks that are going to spend this kind of cash will expect top noch customer service. Too bad for all of us that the great group of folks that were there for our quirky questions and requests are all laid off.

No secret boat sales are down. I'm all for getting them back. But this shrinking economy is taking it's toll on everyone. If boat sales were where they were 3 years ago nobody would have been laid off.

What's your suggestion? Keep everyone on regardless of numbers?

A lot of good Caterpillar, EMC, teachers, firemen, cops, construction workers, etc. getting laid off lately. Sucks for everyone.

No doubt things are bad and jobs have to be cut, I don't see the logic in a new 300 grand boat that cost a ton in R&D and tooling. You can have the best product out there but without customer support it won't last. I thought it was a bit ironic that at the same time of the 300 intro the last of the customer service group as we knew it was let go. The boating industry needs another +$300,000.00 boat right now? For MC's sake I hope so.

No doubt this is keeping the executive team up at night. The only thoughts I have is that they must believe in this boat in order to launch it in this economy. Ultimately, I believe they are betting on themselves (the innovation of the company, that is). But this boat had to be in the works for a while. Something this massive, with first class amenities, just doesn't evolve over night.

Heads might be rolling if it doesn't work out...

Every new product has a break even sales goal so I wonder what the executive team pegged as the figure they have to sell in order to make the whole project profitable. I was watching some discover channel deal on the new A380 and Airbus has to sell something incredible like 1000 of the planes just to break even after all R&D and production costs are considered.

You guys have to realize. This boat didn't go through R&D overnight. They probably started the process 3-4 years ago, and when a company (not just MC) has that much money invested in developing something. They can't just pull the plug or put it on the back burner till the market gets better. It has togo to market. The money is already spent on the development of the product. If it dosen't go to market the cost of the other models will have to go up even more (than it already dose) to cover this loss.

I'm not saying I like the 300 or would have went in that direction, I'm just saying this is probably pretty close to the reason why things are happening the way they are.

i would love to see some pics of the inside of this beast.

Here are the few I pulled off the website... not very good angles, as they were trying to leave it to the imagination, but none the less....

I have been a long time MC owner, and can feel the wrath coming on, but personally I think this boat is ugly...

well then, personally, I like it. Wish i had the money to get one. but being a personal trainer, unless I marry rich (which would be awesome) ill probably never have the money to get one. :( but none the less, I hope there are a lot of people out there that do have the money to buy one and ill just have to make some new friends!!:D:D:D

Has anybody seen a back view of the 300?
I would like to see where the props are located.
