Well, I am 99.9% sure that I am taking a pass on the boat in FL. I am going to be doing some test drives this weekend at Riverview Marina. They have that red PS 190 that someone posted in "the other thread" and also the 205 that was posted I am going to try to look at on Sunday.

If you find any ads for a 1993-1997 PS 190 or possibly 205 please post them. 18K is my MAX and I would like low hours and a interior in good/excellent shape.

ERK, if the 'bu is a sportster, pass. the combination of short boat with an incredibly low freeboard at the transom causes it to flood over the back if you stop quick.

Keep in mind that your bank may not be happy at all if the NADA value of the boat you buy is less than the boat they approved the loan for. be careful!

open bow=less storage but
open bow=higher resale

did you ever check out that 205 I sent you from flipsell? It's in Crown Pointe Indiana, looks real good. though If I were going to consider a open bow, it'd be a 197.

Water temps are fine, you don't even need a wetsuit in my opinion. The river is even in good shape, however, I wouldn't take an inboard on that water though. Any boat I hought I would definetely recomend taking a ski behind it.

Water is not that clean for skiing. Mainly I would worry about logs that can be seen floating down the river. Inboards and logs are a bad combo

Since the weather has been so bad lately it has been interesting to read all these posts readarding Eric getting a boat. For the life of me though I cannot figure out what it is he is looking for. Many of us have suggested boats for him close to his home. At least closer than Florida and I think closer than Cinncinati.

My first priority when I bought my boat was to find one that had a great ski wake. My main interest is slalom skiing. That is why I went with a 94 PS190. I also wanted fuel injection and lastly something I could afford.

The boat I bought was in Atlanta but the seller agreed to meet me half way in Kentucky. I would have bought a boat closer, but the price was too good. It was a lot cheaper to add a 1000 mile drive round trip then buy local.

My suggestion to you Eric is to list your priorities in a boat and then find the best deal you can. It appears that you just want any boat and as soon as one "looks good" to you, you persue it with a set of blinders on to the rest of the world.

You acted like you wanted a 97 PS190. I told you about one that is $1000 less than the Fl boat, a little more than 2 hrs from you, and is in good shape.

Let the group know what you are looking for and we can help.

Perhaps he has and keep in mind, this has some dealer mark up.
This dealer has been in business for many years and has three locations.
They seem to ask a fair price for their boats.
I bought my first one from them and have seen many very clean used boats sell from their location on our lake.
Sometimes they sell before they even list them and I see them because I visit the marina frequently.
I'll take a look next time I visit and talk to the owner to see if he has any new leads on a nice used Prostar.

You told me about the red 97 PS 190 at Riverview Marine right??? Well, I went out and looked at that boat, drove the boat, and rode in the boat for more than 3 hours. There was some beaching damage to the keel that you could see the figerglass to, there were a bunch of marks on the exterior gelcoat, the rub rail had been used (alot), it was from GA, saltwater???, the teak had mildew on it.......

And it had almost 1200 hours. Dealer wouldn't go a cent under 18,750. Sorry, to much money for that boat.

I am looking for a mid 90's Prostar 190 w/ low hours. Has to have a trailer that is in good condition, and is fully functional. No damage!

I have also checked into a few other boats, so I don't have blinders on it. I called and talked with the owners of the 1996 MC Prostar 190 in Greensburg Indiana, I talked with the owner of a 1998 MC PS 190 in Michigan, I talked with the owner about a 1994 MC PS 190 (sold), and I never heard back from the seller of the MC PS 205 that is purple on the tandem axle trailer.

That is how I arrived at the 1996 MC PS 190 at Hern Marine.

The majority of the ads were found on boattrader, flipsell, iboats, or usedboats.com.

No, I told you about a 97 PS190 that is in Lodi Wi. That's only 2.5 hrs from you. It's on the site here http://www.tmcowners.com/market/showproduct.php?product=317&sort=1&cat=5&page=1 WI slalom chick (Julie) is some one I ski with.

I know nothing about a Red 97 at Riverview Marine.

I wasn't trying to be insulting to you about the blinders but you sure seemed determined to get that Fl boat when it was painfully obvious to the rest of us that that was a boat to stay away from. I hope you find a boat that meets all your needs.

Wakesport, everyone on here understands what you said except ERK.. He is just a young kid who is just peeing his pants everytime a boat pops up.. No offense Erk, I was probably alot like you, if not a few others on here, at your age. I sure wish I would have listened to my dad more, but he just didn't understand. Funny thats what my kids say to me now.

Erk, Believe it or not we are trying to help, but you gotta have some patience while looking and patience seems to come with age, which you don't have..... The right boat will come along....

I have patience, but that doesn't mean that I have to look at ads for two weeks in order to find a boat. I have looked at hundreds if not maybe a thousand boats for sale, both in my area and outside my area. From FL to MI to New York. I know what I want in a boat, so when I find it I don't see the point in dragging your feet to buy it. That is just a waste of my time and the sellers time.

I can relate
My daughter is going thru a situation as Eric. She is looking to buy her first car. If she had here way she would be the owner of a sharp looking, but worn out Caviler. Good thing I went along and saw how poor condition and how ratty it was.

By the way, does anybody know anything about 96 Contour's?

Well I stopped by Pinecrest today since it was too cold to put the lifts and pier in.
They said that the 85 was a beaut and was on contract, that's probably why the price was a bit high. (SOLD)
I think that year with the vent on the bow looked great.
Anyway they had quite few new "X" boats and no used Prostars like usual.
They expect more in the near future as people trade in for new boats.
As Rick mentioned, patience is the key.

Glad to hear you passed on the boat in FL. I thought that boat you test drove was from GA, it looked like the JOA logo on the trailer and transom. That dealer is no where near the ocean and I would seriously doubt that it has been in any saltwater.

OK Erk I'll make this easy for you. Double your loan amount and lengthen the term. I'll sell you my '02 PS 197. It's black/gold on the ivory hull (best color combo MC ever had). LTR (330 HP - 218 hours), PPass, cleats, bimini, TT "hooked" hull, bow filler cushion, cover, CD player, depth finder, etc... I'll even let you drive to SC to pick it up. That way you'll have your cool road trip story to tell your friends!

Let me know.

Gotcha. Put some pics up.

I was just reading two pages back. Rick said something, then Erik responded. Funny, I agree with both of them.

Patience is a really important thing in a process like this. My father-in-law, for example, waited twenty plus years to get his boat.

I looked at one, walked away. Looked at another, and bought it. So my hybrid Springer Final Thought is that you have to have the patience to walk away from the not so perfect deals, and the requisite knowledge to know how to spot the right one.

Requisite knowledge isn't a ton, but it isn't zero either. If you're able, financially, to swing it, and you've satisfied yourself that this is the best boat your money can buy, I see no reason not to enjoy this boat while your physical abilities are at their peak.

The older you get, the wiser you get. But you're only twenty once. But you're 29 forever.
