Just got an '08 X2 about 6 months ago and I am looking for a backup prop. Anyone know of any good websites to pick one up? Also is the stock prop the best or should I get something else?

I would say get a prop for more hole shot as your backup. Do you board or wakesurf?

I wakeboard but got a surf board in the off season and look to give that a try when we thaw up here.

Erik from OJ should be posting his opinion pretty soon. He knows his stuff.....

What performance changes would you like to see? Does the current propeller provide enough low end power? What is the size of the current prop? What motor is in the boat?

Not sure what size the prop is, its in winter storage and all the info is with the boat. It is the stock prop, for some reason think I remember it being a 14.5 inch. This is my first boat and only had a couple months to play with it before it had to be winterized. It has the MCX engine. I've had no issues with performance at all. I guess if anything I would want more low end power. I have little use for increasing top speed.

I have an '05 X-star with MCX (different boat but for what it's worth)

I removed my stock prop (13.7 X 17) and replaced it with the OJ 14.25 X 14.5. Much better holeshot with extra ballast (1500 more than stock) and holds speed well too. Top speed around 38-39, it may have been more with stock but never checked and didn't care to.

If you can get to your boat to read the prop size (stamped on prop near nut) it would help Eric @ OJ to steer you in the right direction.

14.25x14.5 is definitely the size. Rang a bell with me when I heard it. I still have the stock ballast and on glass it tops out right above 45 mph. I rarely get over 40 though. I spend about 50% of the time on the Willamette and 50% on the Columbia River. The willamette is great, glass a good portion of time, but the columbia super choppy. Sounds like maybe I got the right prop, just need another one?

Check Ebay. I got a good deal on a brand-new takeoff there last summer; there are a couple of dealers who post there. I'd be careful of any "refurbished" props; if done well, they aren't a problem, but not all of them are done well.

Check the marketplace here. There seems to be a few props for sale on it.

If you are looking for a little more low end power I would suggest a 14.25 X 14 LC Splined XMP EDGE 4-blade.

Eric - whats a good prop for speed? And how fast do you think an 07 X2 w/ MCX can go with a "speedier" prop?

1:1 transmission or Powerslot? Max RPM of current prop? Size of current prop?

Transmission is whatever is standard for an 07 X2 MCX. Currently have OJ 14.25x14.5. 5200 max RPM and hitting about 40. Like to get closer to 50 if possble for days when we aren't skiing and like to cruise at lower RPMs.

Close to 50 will be a bit out of reach. To lower the RPM and gain a few MPH, 1-2, I would suggest our 14.75 X 15.5 LC XMP EDGE 4-blade.

I have that exact prop (splined). I'm asking $300 shipped. I bought it as a lightly used demo prop (it's still shiny new) but my boat needed a taper shaft prop (< 2002).

pm if interested

i bought this one from you last year. i'm considering going down to 14.25x14.5. i'm porposing pretty badly at anything above 34mph or so depending on crew/gear/ballast, but the thing is a monster out of the hole. :)

hitting just under limiter (think it's 5600, 5650, sorry it's early) at WOT

what do you think eric? should i go down to the 14.25 x 14.5? is there an XMP edge version of it as well?

yep still for sale brucemac. I put it on the market place last week. It sold within a couple hours. Turns out a BU owner bought it.:uglyhamme

too bad he noticed it was splined, 2 hours after I shipped it. hehe, silly BU owners.

I told him to return to sender and I'll refund his money. It should be here this week.

Bruce - The 14.25 X 14.5 XMP EDGE was the standard prop prior to the 14.75 X 15.5. IT may be worth a try.

want to trade?! :D

mine's in new condition and i have the box. :)

probably too late for that, I'm guessing

are the new X-1's with MCX coming with my prop?

don't get me wrong, the thing is PERFECT for boarding, but depending on conditions anything up over 31'ish and she starts to porpoise. not like i have any serious skiers in my crew (yet), but it would be nice to not lose a race to the cantina against my buddy's i/o. :D

in all seriousness though, i realize you can't have both. i just want a smooth ride all the way up to WOT without worrying hitting my rev limiter.

what's the part# Eric for the 14.25 x 14.5 XMP Edge LH Splined?

Still shiny like new. I bought it as a "demo" prop. Excellent condition.

I would think the 14.25 X 14, part #477, would get on the limiter before the 14.75 X 15.5. I can do a trade if you'd like.

i'm interested in finding out. not sure how that normally works, but i can call you this week. ideally, it would be really cool to take the boat out with the current, pull it out of the water and swap so i can get a same day test. i'm totally comfortable with giving you a deposit/card number, etc for your protection to do so. if that's even possible. i'd hate to send this one back to you and then be disappointed with the 14.25 x 14 although i don't see that happening. any ideas as to why i'm porpoising? doesn't really seem to matter on weight although i haven't gone up over about 1800lbs yet. and by the way, i really appreciate the offer Eric. way cool.

what motor? what's your rpm and top speed at WOT?

any porpoising at WOT?

beatle78

Do you have your bow ballast filled when you are porpoising?

I've hit waves and started to porpoise pretty badly with ballast in the boat. Especially when the bow ballast was empty.

brucemac
03-23-2009, 04:17 PM
yeah, it's happening no matter the weight configuration and empty, even 2 adults up there. the thing is awesome for wakeboarding in every regard though, but i'm curious what performance characteristics and differences i'll see with the 14.24x14.5

Bruce - Give me a call and we can work it out. I am more than ok with sending you the prop to test against the current prop. No worries on the credit card, I know where to find you. 800-359-9730
