With all the troubles in the markets today i would think that MC would be highly motivated to sell there current stock of boats.
I went in and spoke to my local dealer about pricing on a new X2. I was thinking his price is a little high.

What is real price i should be looking at paying for an X2

I would imagine there would be lot of people buying new 2009 X-2s.

I have been working with my dealer and with taking my X1 in on trade we are at $52 with a credit for $1800 dollars in options so I could take the $1800 off the top a. And this is for a loaded, MCX, heated seats, two tower speakers with lights, tandem trailer, VDIG, and so on... hope that helps.

Thanks ORX-1 that is helpful. So how much is he giving you for the X-1?

I am up un Canada ... so i had to adjust the dollar from the cdn. peso
50k x 1.25 = 62.5k cdn ... makes it seem like more.

$38/k which is pretty good all things considering. If I didn't have the trade I would hope to get a new boat cheaper. I'm not sure if I will act on this even thought it'a a great deal because I would be increasing my debt, and we all know it may not be the best time for that.

Any idea what the MSRP was to begin with, i.e., how much of a "discount" you got? I'm interested in a 214/X-14. One dealer has a 2009 X-2 listed at 65 and a 2009 X-14 listed at 60. So, I'm wondering if I could expect to get a similar 13 (65-52?) or so knocked off the X-14.

low 50's without trailer and upper 50's with one seems resonable if you don't have too many upgrades.

Hard to tell, the MSRP was around $80 or something, but you know they inflate the MSRP to basically whatever they want. I don't think you could ever find out the true invoice...

You just got a 2009 X2 with all of that equipment for $52,000 USD?????? And on top of it they gave you 38K on your trade?????

That would be at least 37% off the MSRP.

I didn't get it but that is the deal we worked out. they have used it as a demo so it has like 20 hrs on it, but thats the hard numbers. They got a 5000 dollar credit from the MC Rep at the boat show, so I am sure that made up for a part of the difference. Also MSRP is whatever they make it. they told me that they just adjust it accordingly. you know that the true cost isn't 80k!

Thats stuff dreams are made of. Makes me want to cancel my order. I thought I did really well in relation to MSRP, guess not, or something else is going on that we aren't getting the full story.

Where is the dealer? Maybe I will. :)

No bites on the Lexus yet, and I don't want to just dump it. at least not yet. Here's the link if anyone is looking, http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/1002383887.html .Yeah they do a good job here in Portland but keep in mind that they were getting 5K from MC. so with out that I bet it wouldn't be such a sweet deal. I didn't do it though just based on the debt factor. Not sure it's the best time, the good thing about the Portland dealer is that they pretty much said they would try to honor it down the road.

I don't think so Witness. I think ORX-1 is looking at a X-2, not a Maristar 200. That one was at our dealer, not sure if it's still there.

Where is the dealer? Maybe I will. :)

25% off MSRP is an absolutely smoking deal.

After shopping for 3 boats in 3 years I have a decent idea of where numbers should be.

I can't fathom 37% off. That would be below cost.

I can't fathom XX% off. That would be below cost.

There is a substantial markup on boats. I doubt many people outside of dealers know what "cost" is.
I walked into a dealership that had just taken on the Tige brand with his pleasure and bass boats. I asked a price on one of his boats and he got out his manual. He opened it up and he had listed MSRP and another number that was drastically lower. I asked about it and he said that is what he would pay for the boat. That didn't include his floor space, overhead, etc.
Think about it, how much more material/cost is there in making a 197 ($XX,000) vs an X-star ($XX,000), vs a X-45 ($XXXK). There has to be a lot of wiggle room in the numbers.

I have seen a few "at cost prices" you would both be amazed what they pay.

dont worry about costs ... just buy a new boat and help the ecomony ... Maybe we should all write a letter to congress and ask for some bailout money ... we promise to stimulate the economy by spending it all on new boats, new tow vehicles, and new ski equipment ... I could spend $150k on it no problem .... let's just ask for a few million and have a great summer

This is probably a pretty good representation of a decent deal in today's market.
Good for new buyers to use as a baseline for decision making/negotiating.

good luck! We pick our 02 X2 up in late April/early May!!!

It has been requested and stated numerous times in the past that discussion of prices on the forum is not acceptable. If prices need to be discussed, please discuss via the Private Message feature.

All percentages and prices will be deleted from previous posts.

5. Promotion of Products/Services. In terms of whether a Team Talk member can use the board to sell new boats or other items, the answer is an unequivocal NO. There cannot be any public promotion of new boats or wakeboards or ropes or anything of the sort, especially by our dealers or partners. This board was never intended to become a sales floor.

However, this board is meant to gather information whether it be useful or otherwise. Sometimes people are looking for information about new boats or products and what they might cost.

All information concerning new products by a dealer or partner needs to be relayed via PM. If someone comes on the board and says they are interested in buying a boat, then any of these guys can PM them, assuming doing so doesn't violate any territory rules.

If any information or solicitation regarding these new boat transactions that is posted on the public side of the board (or the person to which the message is relayed quotes it publically, the post will be deleted and a warning sent to the offending party. Repeated violation will be handled otherwise on a case-by-case basis.

substancial markup in boats? You have to be kidding me. In larger boats yes. Im venturing to say that most 197's they are thrilled to get 20 percent.

Ever look though boating magazines, go to a waterski/wakeboard event? MC, Nautique, Bu advertisements on every other page. Yes there is a substantial mark up in boats. Yes even in the 197. The hull has been around for a while now, so R&D costs on that specific model are low now. The business plan that the manufacturers/dealers have will be changing as the effects of the economy start to hit everyone.

FYI, boats aren't the only toys with markups, motorcycles, RVs.

Do you think a bank will lend out just any dollar amount for any old boat? Dealers can not rip you off or the bank will not lend the money. If down the road the have to repo the boat they would be in too deep.........

RV's and boats are ALOT different. RV's have up to 60% margin. If boats had 60 percent margin on the avg 30k boat dont you think there would be ALOT more dealers?

No offence but boat lenders gave money away on way overpriced boats to borrowers that could barely fog a mirror. The same as the housing and auto business. Oh and the 15 credit cards for unemployed students.

Motorcycle and RVs have a lot of dealers because their price point is low. However, their margins are still high. As prices go up, dealers go down. Those RV lots sell many trailers at a MSRP of less than $XXK. Ask a dealer how many diesel pusher $175K RVs they sell, not many. The lowest cost new ski boat is around $xxK MSRP, which puts ski boats at a much different price point. Also, MC, CC, and Bu control the number of dealers.

MSRP is whatever the manufacturer wants it to be, that is explained in Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. Banks will lend money based on your credit and the MSRP.

Banks will lend based on purchase price, down payment, and credit. If I am buying an '09 X14 for $75K at MSRP and putting down $25,000.00 cash and have a 750 credit rating I will get an loan and ripped off at the same time.

But I do see the point you are making. I hope you see mine.
