hey guys I out look at getting a new boat. I primarily wakeboard and barefoot. I have an old dd inboard now and like the fact that I can put a boom on really easy. For that Fact I would rather have a dd than a vdrive. But I really want something that If i throw some fat sacs in I can get really big and good shaped wakes. I heard the prostar 205 has a pretty good wake if you weight it. My question is what about the prostar 209. Ive really notice a jump in price between the two. I would really like to know the difference between like a 96-00 prostar 205 vs. a 01-05 prostar 209. Facts on wot, wake shapes, hulls, engines, trannies, horsepower, and handling would all help me out.

Both will get the job done but the larger wetted surface area of the 209 is going to create more drag and a little lower top end speed, the wake for footing is also not quite as nice as the 205. Both throw a pretty decent wake when weighted with the 209 have more storage even when weighted thanks to a full size rear trunk.

I've not spent much time in a 209, but I've logged a lot of hours in the 205 DD and V. The 205 handles a little tighter than the 209 but the 209 handles rough water a little better.

No idea on WOT we usually wakeboard with about 2K of weight in the 205 and it works well for that. Also pulled some slalom skiers at 34 and 36 mph again no complaints.

Not sure where you are at in the Midwest but if you are in the MN area we currently have a 1999 ProStar 205, 2001 ProStar 209 and a 2003 ProStar 209.

Forgot to mention that the 2001 and 2002 ProStar 209's have a little bigger wake at slalom speeds than the 03+ as a small hook was added to the 2003 and newer boats. The 2003 and newer 209's also had an optional 350 hp MCX vs the 330 LTR which should eek out a little more top end for footing.

Here are some links

Of the three the 1999 205 is in the best condition and it has Perfect Pass, custom ballast system and a wakeboard tower.

This is my 96 205, no ballast, at about 19mph. The person behind the camera didn't really do a great job though, but it's the best I've got until the end of March or so.
