Anybody own either of these vehicles? I'm looking for input. The Challenger has more interior room and 70 more horsepower, but the Mustang is a convertible and I love convertibles. As far as looks go, I'd give the Challenger the edge, though the Mustang is cool. I think the Mustang sells for a few thousand dollars less, so it's almost a toss-up.

Living in Florida,i would go with the convertible.
Do you really need the extra HP of the Challenger?

I cannot even compare the two. Not a Mopar man myself but RT all the way! SRT or RT should be the choice. Get your wife a Miata! Andre' are you serious? Lol!

If you guys were wondering, yes, I just got out.

Won't matter, still a girl's car according to my wife...

The topic came up when I told her I liked the car a few years ago. Since then, I noticed a lot more chicks driving them than guys. I guess she was right.

BTW, smilies aren't working, so you'll have to guess which ones go where.

Actually, this car will be for my wife. I was just trying to find something I could have fun with and still be acceptable to her.

I can't leave it to her. The cars she's bought in the past: Chevette, Dodge Aries K Car, Ford Taurus. I will not let this woman buy another car by herself! ;)

I bought a '70 Mustang convertible shortly after I started dating my wife. I love convertibles.
I think I can drive one without feeling gay at all...

This thread was actually an honest attempt to get input from any members who actually own or are familiar with these vehicles.

(Not that I don't enjoy the banter with the rest of you bums...)

Sounds familiar, Lynn's 15 mpg Ford Exploder with all the recalls is a fine example! She chose it over a Chevrolet Blazer while working for GMAC and could get a employee discount, picked it out, we sold her perfectly good 34 mpg Hyundai Excel, she paid for it and I have to take care of all the dealership visits.

Being in the biz we have had a # of mustangs, Saleen's, boss's, Gt 500's. I would go with the Challenger but that is just my opinion. If you want a real man's car try a Ford Gt40, we specialize in these. www.eliteautosllc.com

My dad did the same thing for my Mom. Started with 95 Z28 Camaro Convertible then a 2001 Corvette Convertible 6 speed and now an 2003 Avalanche. We have had a lot of fun in all three when Mom wasn't around. Avalanche, not as much, of course.

I like the looks of both. Living anywhere other than the south I'd say go for the Challenger.

I rented the "new" Mustang twice ('05 or '06 hard top and '08 one soft top) while in Virginia / Florida with work and I must say nothing beats driving around in February with the top down - that being said I stuck out as the northerner with the top down because most didn't have their tops down.

Anyway, had fun both times with the Mustang. Only complaint is that the steering starts to feel too light and there is too much sway for my liking at 100mph+. Not sure if they've addressed this or not. I prefer a heavier feel like a 70's Corvette.

Only other issue with the 'stang was the "safety" of the onboard computer. Tried to brake torque it and the ABS kicked in, allowing the car creep forward before the tires lit up. I then thought, "okay car, let's see what happens when I throw it into drive at 5k rpm..." (As I say, it was a rental! ;) ) Anyway, the computer eased the engine back to 700-800 rpm and let the car shift into drive in a very anti-climatic fashion.

That being said, go for the Mustang!
