x55 there is no doubt that TMCNo1 is our biggest MC fanatic... not in stature per se but in memorabilia collection by far...

is there a MC museum?... kind of like the coke museum in atlanta... that has one of everything that's ever had MC on it... if not it would sound like this vault harold has might be the closest thing we have to a complete history of MC... id really like to go through a museum and see that first prototype where the MC founders cut up that correct craft boat to put together that first ski boat... and have all the anniversary boats on display to see how the industry has changed... i think people who aren't even MC freaks would get into something like that mildly... most of us would most likely make a week of a place like this tho... i'd like to see a bunch of info on the build technology that advanced towboat construction and design to what it is today...

A few years back there where plans set aside for a museum. Some boat owners where involved in getting it together. Plans went by the way side when a few owners would not donate there boats to the cause. The boats where to be on display in the museum during the off season. Sort or like a part time amusement park. We have a local owner down here in Florida ready to put his boat on display. We pretty much go boating all year long down here...so he could not be w/o his boat for an extended period of time.

In a recent conversation, talk of opening up the OLD PLANT in Maryville came up. There is a gorgous home behind the old plant(s). w/ a test lake and jump. There was interest in seeing how boats where built in the 80's vs now. I know that some folks where looking for plant tour guides that have been around a while. I know that some folks have been around longer than some of the staff at MC itself. Some older boats where going to be on display.

I can pass on your name if interested. I do not know if it would require that you move to Maryville or not. It may just be open on the weekends.

Rumor has it that mastercraft is/was gonna buy Ron Crotty's Tri Star 190 from him and/or give him a NEW X-star, just for his participation in the new museum. That's supposedly the reason he did such a fine job on his restoration, getting it back all original. This has been a long time coming! Can't wait to see & ski his new boat! The "BIGGEST" MasterCraft Fanatic ever is no longer with us. His name was Ron Decker. He was the "FIRST" to polish his underwater gear. Ron owned 7 MasterCraft's during his lifetime and every one of his boats won at least one "Best of Show" at MasterCraft Reunions. He taught me a lot about taking care of a MasterCraft and I miss him to this day. It's too bad everyone else here never got the chance to meet him.

Skidog's already spilled the beans!

Look, maybe I should not have said anything just yet, however, it was gonna come out anyway. MC has been planning this for a VERY long time now, and my company is one of the select few that's getting the opportunity to bid on the new facility. I've got prelim. drawings on my plan table as we speak, for the new museum/proshop/outlet center.
I have it on good authority that the Outlet center will be a great place to purchase out of date clothing, merchandise, and memorabilia. As well as any boats that were ordered and not taken delivery of, boats that were buy-backs, and such.
I'm not too sure who's in charge of the buy-back boats for the museum, but I feel certain I can find out. So, if you got a special boat that you feel is worthy of possibly being put in the museum, then by all means, get in touch with the powers to be in Vonore. I know one boat they'd love to have, but i don't think the owner wants to part with it, right Harold:D. Construction is slated to begin sometime in late spring/ early summer of 09.

It may not be a premier specimen, but it shows what a well used boat will look like after 19 years of use and abuse. I recently purchased it and have my work cut out for me. I thought my wife was going to shoot me when I brought home, but she loves it too. It should be ready by spring with all the advice you all have given and continue to give me. which brings me to my next question... if they're giving people new boats and want the best specimens out there why not hold a national MC show and let that be the prize for each class of boat they're looking for?... DANG i need to get into PR

ps Jim if there's anything you hear of jobs wise lemme know... might be a good move toward a career change for this guy... while building is slowing down in the summer i can be on the water and be engineering building boats all winter

There is going to be a volutary board of directors. Sort of simliar to the way USA WaterSki is run. The board will be looking for volutary staff at first. Ones with some MC experience and knowledge behind them. You will also be able to make donations to the museum as a tax write off.

I have only had some of the basics described to me. SKIDOG sounds like he is really on the inside of the plans. I look foward to more info soon. Sounds AWESOME.

My understanding is that they are looking for more of a classic lines type boat. Antiques are considered to be at least 20 years old so 1989 and prior I guess. An old maintained boat in trade for a NEW X-Star...sounds like a deal to me.

Don't forget the Hall of Fame wing, for employees of the company, boat drivers, team skiers, dealers and the like with world record setting boats, skis, towropes, wakeboards, sky skis, kneeboards, boat show displays and toobs as part of the display. They could even use Atlfootr's feet if he's willing to give them up for the right price, think about it, the possibilities are endless.

From what i understand, the boat you get to trade for is negotable. The reason Ron Crotty got a new X-star is, his kids are now skiing for their local high school wakeboard team. So he needed a boat with a tower. I don't think however, that you actually get to order a boat, its whatever they already have built thats not been ordered from a dealer.

I do not know but I think this idea may have been in the works for a while.

At the Indy boat show last spring I stopped by the MC booth and met a gentleman by the name of Greg Stanley, VP Human Relations at MC, he said he knew TMC1 and Skidog well.

As we were talking I stated that I owned an original one owner 79 SS that I had just completly restored and he stated at this time there were plans for a MC museum and would be very much interested in seeing pictures and knowing the history of my boat including the SN.

I forwarded pics, restoration receipts, and basic info to my local dealer here last spring and heard absolutely nothing until recently. I was asked to drop by the dealership with the boat and I did, pictures were taken and and a thorough evaulation was done at this time, took several hours. I was told about the museum idea at this time and if I donated this boat what my choice for a replacement would be, and there would be considerable incentives, and they stressed considerable if my boat was chosen.

To this date I have heard nothing back but everything now seems to be adding up now....

Now my curiosity and anticipation is at an all time high....

Are they looking for one from each year or hull style. Mines an 81 and I could get it in good shape if a new boat was in the deal. I would leave the engine stock when I rebuild it then. Which dealers are involved, I'll give them a call.

Dawg don't lie. I had a friend go back to the factory and trade his high hour 2006 X-Star for a 2008 X-Star and here he claims to get money back in his pocket? Not clear, so I have a question into him about with or without Cash Rewards:

"There is no BS to this. I traded my 2006 Xstar for a 2008 Xstar fully loaded and put money back in my pocket. MC wants to manufacture boats and help the dealers. To make this happen, they are passing out unbelievable deals to us, the consumers."

I called several dealers in the area and want to be sure my 81 is the first in line if they are only taking 1 of each model year. I gauranteed them to put it in drivable condition before sending it down, this is still a pretty good deal for me if I get a boat in return, even if it's not a classic 81 Stars and Stripes with a rare color scheme. Mine was in the calendar published a couple of years ago.

From what i understand, IF you take your boat to a dealer for service and they have records of your boat, then chances are that the dealer COULD refer your boat IF it is what the factory is looking for, for the muesum. I'wouldn't think that just because anybody has an immaculant boat, that MC would actually KNOW anything about it. Seems to me that a dealership that has seen the boat, could in turn, pass the info on to the factory, along with a picture, for futher review.

I could really care less what the plans look like. No offense, Skidog. Unless you are taking bids for the wiring. I expect that they should have one of every model. The owners that have taken the time and effort for their boats to stay in good enough shape to be museum worthy deserve a new boat. I just can't wait for the opening.

I got talking to someone at fanfare back in October who both you and Harold know very well and heard some of the rumblings about this project. I figured it would never get off the ground.

Well, it's kind of 'hovering' right at the moment. I expect that once we get them back preliminary numbers on construction costs, then this project will start to head in the right direction. As for Electrical prices, are you interested? If so, I'll copy the electrical and floor plan and send them to you. Let me know. Not too sure what the licensing issues are for Electricians in Tenn. but I could find out for ya. BTW, do you have a low voltage license? There's a TON of low voltage stuff in the first building!:)

I have a good buddy that is an electrical contractor in TN. I need to check to see what the licensing requirements are there. But at the worst, I could partner with him for the project. I'll check into it. And I do plenty of LV work including Fire Alarm, burglar, access control, data, etc. This is still probably a long shot, but worth considering...
