I don't really know of any major issues with an 01' or 02' X-Star. Both will run the same three piece rear sundeck, new dimension style tower and the 310 or 330 hp engine.

Take each one you look at on a case by case situation, I've seen truly mint used boats and ones that looked pretty rough.

FWIW, we run a 2000 X-Star with the 330 hp LTR and an upgraded ballast system (2k-3K of weight) and it has been pretty much problem free. We replaced the steering cable, and a water pump but thats just maintenance. Can't remember how many hours were at, but it gets used A LOT!

I read in a post here some of the apholstery would make pink spots and to stay away if you see that. Some of the boats that had problems were fixed on Mastercraft some weren't but not all X-stars were affected (mostly 01s possible 02s?).

Also read to watch for grease on the floor or carpets. There is a overflow valve on the 01 X-star that could get water in it causing transmission trouble.

Not sure about 2002, but some speedometers that use water pressure had a problem with water going up to the module located under the dash and ruining it. This can also effect the function of all the guages in some cases. My friend has a 2001 and had to replace the module and all the guages, but I think MC or the dealer covered it.

Great hull and wake (still one of the best around) for wakeboarding, and the 310hp seems to push that boat just fine. Best prop seems to be the 14.25 X 14.5 OJ, that's what my buddy has on his X-1 with the 310 hp engine.
