Keith St. Onge (Winter Haven, Fla.) and April Coble-Eller (Lillington, N.C.) have been selected as USA Water Skiís 2008 Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively. The Mad City Ski Team (Madison, Wis.) earned USA Water Skiís 2008 Team of the Year honors. USA Water Skiís Awards Committee selected the athletes and teams of the year. The athletes and teams will now be considered for the United States Olympic Committeeís SportsMan, SportsWoman and Sports Team of the Year awards, which will be announced in January.

ďKeith St. Onge and April Coble-Eller exceeded expectations among the water ski community in 2008,Ē said Steve Locke, USA Water Skiís executive director. ďTheir accomplishments along with those of the Mad City Ski Team are exceptional and impressive. We applaud all of their hard work and are honored to have them representing USA Water Ski.Ē

The 31-year-old St. Onge, the defending menís world barefoot slalom, tricks and overall champion, swept slalom, tricks, jumping and overall titles in Open Pro Men at the Southern Regional Barefoot Water Ski Championships, July 25-27, in Groveland, Fla., and at the Lake Elmo Sports Barefoot Water Ski National Championships, Aug. 12-16, in Alma Center, Wis. St. Onge also won his first career Footstock title, Aug. 23-24, in Crandon, Wis. It is the first time since 1992 (Ron Scarpa) that a barefoot water ski athlete has been selected USA Water Skiís Male Athlete of the Year.

And,
Coble-Eller, 35, won the Open Women national slalom title, the 26th national title of her illustrious career, and earned runner-up finishes in womenís slalom at the Moomba Masters, U.S. Masters, H2Osmosis Pro Swerve Water Ski Championships and Pan American Water Ski Championships. She also was named USA Water Skiís Female Athlete of the Year in 1990 and 1997.
