View Full Version : Engine Hours data

Does anyone know where the data on the engine hours is actually stored? I am having to replace my MDC control panel due to a crack in the box where the speedometer tubes go into it and since this is the "brains of the system" I was wondering if I would lose the engine hours data or is it stored in the digital guage itself?

I believe the data is generated and stored in two independent locations - the MDC and the engine ECM. When the MDC is replaced, your tach's displayed hours will begin at zero once again. The actual engine hours can still be accurately read by a dealer or someone with the correct reader/interface back at the engine ECM.

Just a follow up on my previous question. Changed out the MDC control box today and the engine hours still register the same on the dash display. So, still don't know where the engine hour data is stored, but must not be in the MDC.

Difference between the MDC in 99 vs the MMDC in 07. In the 07, if the MMDC was replaced, hours went to zero on the tach, but actual hours could be read from ECM.
