Steering on a 91 Prostar 190

I have a 1991 Prostar 190, I have noticed at higher speeds when i turn and then straighten out the steering wheel i will feel a "thud" in the steering wheel like something is loose. Kind of like as if there is some play in the in the steering wheel. Do i just need to tighten up the steering cable? I wish i could explain this a little better. Thanks

Welcome. My father-in-law's boat has some play in it. I'll be very interested to see a brief how to if tightening the cable is the answer.
