Does anyone know what the stock ballast is in an X star? I have read anywhere from 800# - 1200#.

Thanks

400 port, 400 starboard, 200 center

I don't think that could be right. It takes a lot longer for the center to fill than either of the back tanks. I would believe 400 center, 200 port, 200 starboard.

Jess, if you're looking for a bit larger wake without going too crazy try this:

(2) 400# v-drive sacs in the rear lockers (still gives you some storage room)
(1) 750# sac in the walkway

This should give you a total of 2550#, makes a nice wake IMHO.

Thx njskier,

We'll be moving over the rear custom sacs from our X1 (520 a piece) and 640 lbs of pop bags for bow. Will start there and see how we like it.

Hoping not to have to plumb bow sacs, but perhaps it is inevitable?

I tried about 500# of lead under the front seats..............worked pretty well but I was not comfortable with that much lead in a boat. Plus the X-star likes a bit more weight in the front than that.

I had thought about plumbing sacs under the front seats too, but didn't want to spend the extra $$ and lose my under-seat storage up there.

Let us know how you make out with yours.

Where are you in the mid-atlantic? Got any pics of your boat?

Sure, here's a pic. We're in Annapolis.

400 port, 400 starboard, 200 center

Sorry Jess. My numbers were for what we add in fat sacs, not the stock ballast. Everyone else is correct. 250/250 in the back and 500 center.

If you are tweaking your wake, personally I would put nothing in the stock ballast and as NJskier suggests, add about 400lbs in the port and starboard lockers. This gives the X-star a tight lipped, firm wake. Add 100 lbs under each front seat and I have a much nicer wake than I can achieve with the stock ballast, with the same amount of total weight. I find this is the right combination of tight lip, wake size, and gas mileage for us.

To go bigger from their, we then start filling the stock rear ballasts, then the KGB.

Jess -

That is a nice looking boat on land... I'm sure she looks better in the H20.

Interesting idea, I'll have to try some version of that next year. No sense wasting gas.

Hey Jess, I'm only 3 hours north of you. Bring that X-star up here next June for NJWakefest!
We sometimes ride the Chester river in Chestertown where my sister lives. Do you run on the Severn or South river?

njskier-
Would love to check out the Chester. We've driven over it a few times and always talk about dragging the boat up there. We ride the Severn most of the time, but willing to go other places. Our only NJ experience was riding the Rancocas with Jeremy Leonard. We talk about going to the NJWakefest every year, just never got our act together to make the trip.
