View Full Version : Solenoid Problem?
I have a 1989 240 Maristar w/454. Here's a picture of my starter motor and solenoid. I've replaced the ignition switch, new blue top optima, starter motor is 14 months old. I can jump the solenoid to start the boat and I have checked to see that I have enough power coming into the solenoid. So my thought is... Time to replace the solenoid. Just looking for some help.

When i first bought my boat (1990 Maristar 210 with 454) it had trouble starting. The guy at the deal took a big screw driver and tapped on the soleniod. The boat started right up. He did say that this trick only worked a few times and it was time to replace the soleniod. Once replaced, never had another starting problem.
If you still have your 210, what kind of top end could you get out of it. I'm trying to address what I perceive to be performance issues and I'm looking for members with as close to matching boats as I can find.

Rob, these solenoids can be short lived due to the heat they are exposed to, and are a very common failure, both in the marine as well as the automotive industry. Its a cheap fix and a guy could do dumber things than to keep a spare on hand.
I've been looking around, and I'm not sure of the solenoid I need (picture above)? Skidm doesn't carry them. Has anyone with a similar setup purchased one? Please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Rob, try calling your local auto parts store.........they should have it for you. Usually Vince at skidim has everything.......guess this is one thing he doesn't have. Should be able to find one at an auto parts store.
