Has anyone installed the bow filler cushion supports on an X-1, old star or X-2? I have both brackets and just want to make sure I drill correctly and get the right types of screws? Anyone know what types of screws I should get for this, they have to go into the fiberglass. Also I have read up on this but as far as drilling and pre-drilling, any suggestions?

Thanks!

Good thing everyone didn't reply all at once! I was able to get the supports installed no problem, it was my first time drilling into the fiberglass so I was a little nervious but so far so good. Here is a picture of the final product.

Screws or bolts? I think mine were bolts.

i just installed one on my 08 xstar. however, my was a slide-in/drop-in board that required no drilling so i didn't have to endure the anxiety you did. i believe i will grow to like mine. congrats on a neat and clean finished product. it looks really sharp.

The newer boats, after about 2003, have a lip already molded into the fiberglass where the bow seats are, and the composite platform for the cushion drops right onto that. No brackets required.

My 2002 X-30 has a ridge that the composite platform rests on. The bow filler cushion then sets right on top of the platform. No extra brackets, screws, bolts or anything required.

I'm not sure that would end up being cheaper, but maybe....

I thought that I was safe and didn't need to install any brackets, but the way it worked for the X-1 was that I got a flat white piece that had x-1 molded into it. then the front part rest on the two cup holders and then I installed the two brackets to support the back. I will post pictures tonight to give a better idea.

the cost is roughly $300 for the full kit, I would check with mymastercraft or some of the dealers on here.

Go with the MC cushion. The substrate and cushion are very reasonably priced. I got mine for about $200.

here is how mine looks without the cushion. You can kind of see the right side bracket in the edge but these are what I had to drill into the fiberglass to install. Then the white board rest ontop of the two brackets and the cup holders.

also here is the back of my cushion.

Nice job. My boat came with the bow cushion/platform, but I virtually never use it. On the older boats those brackets sticking out look like a shin laceration waiting to happen. Everybody's boating needs are different and to me the bow cushion just wouldn't be worth the effort. I do hope it works out well for you.

i just got the same setup for my boat and it didn't come with the brackets...my boat is an 04 but i had to order a 05 cushion because that's all MC would make. Did your board come with the brackets...and would you happen to know the part number for them?

The added brackets that you installed look just like the ones in my 2006 X-30, and it looks like you did a perfect job.

I haven't had any issues hitting them with my legs but now that I have said that I will await my shin injury this spring. ;)
