a buddy of mine has an 04 x star with the escalade engine (385 hp i believe). 5300 rpm it runs fine, you bump it up to 5400 rpm and it sounds like it is misfiring. Any thoughts?

It's probably the rev limiter kicking in to prevent over reving the engine.

The Cadillac engine for MasterCraft in 2004 was the 6.0 liter LQ9. MasterCraft lists it as being 320 horsepower with a max WOT of 6200 RPM. I agree with Harold that it sure does sound like the rev limiter, but it the ECM should let it get up to it's rated max RPM.

Does the engine look like this?

I wonder how long it will last at 6200. That sure seems to be spinning pretty fast.

I'll bet it will last three years, at least...;)

It's designed that way. That engine or similar with those WOT specs have been around for a long time and its reliability appears to be fine. I wouldn't worry about it if I had that engine

I thought it was 385hp?

Heh heh...oops :o

I was going by the 2004 MasterCraft owner's manual, which listed the LQ9 as having 320 hp with a WOT of 5800-6200 RPM. Now, looking at the 2005 owner's manual, I see that they list the LQ9 as having 375 hp with a WOT of 5200-5600.

Either they tweaked that engine a LOT between 2004 and 2005, or this is just another of the many misprints in the 2004 MasterCraft owner's manual.
