I opted to the dark side with a 2009 Malibu wakesetter VLX. Thought that I would try out new things for a change. First had a 1995 prostar 190, then a Tige 20V 2004, then the mighty X-Star 2005 and now a VLX 2009. Have to see how she goes, went with the 400hp engine with the saltwater package.

I'd like to truly say I was as well since I've now owned two Mastercraft's. Bottom line, however, is that I'm more dealer loyal than anything and if my dealer started selling one of the other two nationally respected brands, and I was looking for a new boat, I'd probably end up with one of those. In fact, that's EXACTLY how I became a Mastercraft owner in the first place!

I agree way to come out and make it known. Make sure to learn how to work that wedge so you can get your wake all dialed in. Post Pics when you get it, I am sure it's a great boat, you know if you're in to that whole Malibu thing. Just joking congrats on a new boat!

First off - good luck with the new boat, sincerely.

But since you posted, why would you go from the best wakeboard boat to anything else? Unless you aren't a serious boarder. No shame in that, I can barely board.

And do post some pic's...

I live in Europe, so I will get the boat in January, but it will be stored by the dealer until April / May. I sold my X-Star straight to a buyer in March 2008. I will post some pics once I get some myself.:D

well have fun trying to keep that interior clean and picking up all the screws and nuts out of the bilge.

MC to Malibu .... similar to going from a first class seat to a middle coach seat

This calls for a totally senseless and stupid act on someone's part, and I think we're just the guys to do it!

Wait, wilhelm already took care of that for us.

(Wilhelm: hope you enjoy it. Not my style, but they put off a mean wake I have admired from afar.)

hehhehh, that is funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will keep you updated once I get the boat. I agree with some comments that you have made about malibu's, but ... MC is actually very dissapointing beyond X-Star, the dashboards on the other boats just are not my taste and why buy a boat that has been the same since 2003 (not really buying the boat for just wakeboarding)? You get bored with the same, don't you think? X-15 just did not do it for me.

you had what is now the x2... new star is NASTY... its a mile across that thing but you've got enough ramp to make it if you've ever heard of holding an edge... i like the vlx wake alright... just got to get it dialed in... ps watch that wedge b/c i do know a guy who's wedge all but completely ripped out from his... yeah i had to follow him in to make sure they didn't need an emergency rescue b/c he was taking on serious water... try to dial the wake w/o the wedge no joke... its a warranty issue... o yea and check out on youtube the mastercraft commercials zane schwenk put together... hilarity

the current X-Star has been exactly the same since 2003, before that it was the same as the current X1, the current X2 has nothing to do with wither the current X-Star or the X1. 2005 X-Star as you can see also from my avatar is the latest X-Star model, only the graphics, gauge panel have changed and they made the tower also cheaper to build in 2007. I know my boats ;)

While it's nice to see companies change their models every 4-5 years, you have to admit it would be hard to improve on the current X-star hull (and Prostar 197 too for that matter).
The boat just screams "best you can get" even to people who know very little about wakeboard boats.

2007 VLX's are only selling for around $40-$42K right now, resale value is not the best. Hope you plan on keeping this one more than a few years.

Best of luck with the new boat, I have to admit the Malibu would be my second choice.

(Have to post a pic of my first choice though) :D

Just wondering how they in fact made the towers cheaper in 2007?
