Getting close to funding the 2008 SEP/IRA for 2008 pretty quick now. Can't wait for the end of the year- I figure the market will start climbing again in about a week.

My wife now retired, has had her 401k grow weekly since August 18 (she's been checking it), with no contributions from her or her company. Must be the level of the investment triangle she chose when the plan was implemented that allows her 401K to continue to grow. I can't say as much for my IRA's!

The timing could be better. At this point in the year, I'm not sure what the income will be from the particular company where my SEP/IRA is, so not sure what the max contribution to the SEP/IRA can be. Now I need to guess max contribution without going over and without going too far under. If I wait until I have a better idea of max contribution, I'm afraid the max part of the slide will be over.

Buying in while the market is tanked is great thing, and this is the closest we've come to end-of-tax-year tanking that I've ever seen. I suspect there are a lot of people in this position waiting to see where the bottom is before they start buying back in with their IRA money. There are a lot of idiots out there who have called their brokers and said "get me out of the market, I don't care what it costs". Traditionally, those folks are the biggest losers in big corrections like this.

Get used to the government screwing with our money, even more than they already do.

This is all I had to see "House Democrats" to know it's probably no good

And after reading it my probably turns to yep! I knew it

Just them wanting too and the world seeing this will send 401k to the toilet, this could be the straw that broke it

I've been told to leave mine and keep contributing but after seeing this it's time to re- evaluate

Well, we don't need to sell the investment vehicle, we just need to move it to something that they can't touch. The good thing is that a rollover is easy enough but it has to be into a qualified plan. Just being in a IRA doesn't need to mean that it's in a 401k. I'm going to sell off some and put it into a Roth, since I'm not that far from retirement, although I was closer two weeks ago. I was planning to buy some land, but that's not going to happen when I wanted. #$@%ers!

Desperate times call for desperate actions! I'm going bowling!

Seriously, this Socialist crap needs to stop, now.

They're talking about making changes that will keep some people from retiring at all, let alone well. This can not be allowed and this needs to be made very public.

They might be if Mercury wasn't sucking hind teet. When I left the first MC dealership, the 200HP Merc on the BF200 listed for $15,500- that's more than my parents paid for the house and lot they built in '54. They asked for protection when Honda and Yamaha kicked their butts in '00 and are still losing ground.
