My X-2 is at the dealer for 1 year warranty work (mostly minor things). My teak platform is splitting/cracking in 4 different places. One on top with the grain about 4 inches long and 3 on the ends. My delear (who is outstainding by the way) thinks Mastercraft will replace the the entire platform. Anyone seeing this? Is this normal?

Thanks.

Definately not normal..... and for sure replace the affected boards if not the whole platform. Bad batch of wood. Never seen that yet on this discussion board.

The batch of wood could have a lot of pitch in it and causing it to crack. However teak is generally not a pitchy wood so it is rare.

I have seen the teak crack from impact. Typically when somebody backs into something while trailering or smacks the dock. If you never apply teak oil to the platform the ridges of the grain will deepen when exposed to water then dried, repeatedly.

There is a teak expert on the board. I am sure he has some experience at this.

My current boat and my last boat both had cracks in the teak swim platform from the time I took delivery. I got a new boat prior to seeing if they would fix it under warranty on the first one. I didn't try to get the latest one fixed under warranty due to the fact that I broke the swim platform when it was folded down and hit the driveway.

It should not be cracked. The problem is what will be the long term effect of that crack. Interesting enough when my platform broke it broke right where the crack was.

we have an 04 X-10 with a teak platform that is cracked. We purchased the boat last spring and it was cracked already. I took it apart tonight and that corner is about to fall off. I just emailed: teakworldenterprises.samsbiz.com to see if we can get a new peice. Does anyone have any other suggestion??

Heard back from my dealer today and Mastercraft is replacing the entire platform. They've already replaced my VDIG, a seat cushion with defective or too little foam and repaired a couple of small things - no questions asked.

Very pleased!!

While sanding my teak for the winter, I noticed a small crack just beginning. I talked to my dealer today and emailed them a photo. Within 2 hours they had conformation back from MC and they are replacing the whole platform. Great service from my dealer and MC.

That is very similar in appearance and location (on the individual board) to my cracks. I realize it's a close shot but mine platform is bowing the same way.

Kudos for Mastercraft for making this right!!

It is a very small crack now, but you can tell it's only a matter of time before goes clear to the top of the plank. What *** is, that platform had been sanded and oiled according to #1's Teak process, and now I will have to start all over on the new one.

There must not have been enough teal oil applied to hold it together!:uglyhamme

Got my new teak platform today and noticed a difference. My original platform was made up of 5 planks of teak. The new one, even though it is the same dimensions, is made up of 7 smaller planks. I wonder if this is a change in the manufacturing due to the larger planks cracking? Does anyone know? Here are a couple of pics of the original and the new platforms.
