If you have time, you can order a set based off the VIN Number. If you do not have time, call the locksmith and break out your checkbook!

Give the dealer a call. They should be able to get you a new key that will work. Or better yet, take it in and they should be able to find one to fit. I don't think there are that many different keys for these boats.

MC only has about 4 different keys. The dealer probably has them in stock.

And see everyone wants to be a comedian on the fact that I just put in a new ignition switch in my '89 190 and had two extra keys ordered to come with the ignition switch.... set for the boat, an extra set in the truck, one more set for the key box in the utility room and then a good ole backup set that my uncle has in his boathouse just in case !!!!!!!! Just gotta have them !!!!!!

I thought were were talking about a truck!
If it is just a boat key, then go buy a new keyed ignition for $40 or take the ignition out, take it to the dealer and have them get you a key or hot wire the thing to get you out on the lake and worry about the key when the season is over.

Look at your ignition. You will see an A, B, C, or D. Then you will know if you need an A, B, C, or D key. Go to your dealer and ask for that letter ignition. It will come with two new keys. No need to swap the ignition, just keep it as a spare.

so MC only uses 4 different keys?? Seems like someone would have a 25% chance of taking my boat if they got a hold of a key. why not have a few more keys to prevent something like this from happening?? Just seems lazy or careless on MC's part or maybe im missing something. I do live in Jersey so i may be a little more on edge than your average Joe.:D

If someone steals your boat, having 10,000 different key combinations really is of little concern. They could easily swap the ignition or just hotwire it. The real challenge is to keep them from stealing it. I don't think my key has left my ignition since I bought it.

$25 will buy you a new ignition switch for your 93.
Also, I bet you could easily hotwire the existing switch to get a days use out of it and to get it back on the trailer.

I could be wrong but I think MC changes there keys every few years. I know at the marina the MC mechanic has a Master set with A, B, C, D on and then has another set with 2006 and less keys. But maybe I read it wrong.

Lenny, that's my understanding also. I was told by the dealer to "rent" the master set for $30, then I can come back and have them cut a key for me. What a pain in the A#$

I was waiting for that one to come up8p I think he has floaties for his floaties at this point though:D
A key for the ignition switch on a boat is more of a formality than anything else, but having the right key makes it easier to start.
For all of the other keys, talk to your insurance agent- it may be completely covered. Have the house locks re-keyed.

My key stays in the ignition unless the plug is out of the boat, that's my little trick feel free to use it.
If I am docked away from the lift I bring a long stainless cable with looped ends and padlock my boat to the dock.
Most theft is opportunistic anyway, if your boat is on a trailer lock up the trailer, if your boat is on a lift, throw a lock around the cradle to the shore station. just a bit of deterrent can go far enough to prevent the theft.
I would assume your boat key doesn't have a truck/house key on it, simply because I have not met a key chain float that could keep that many keys floating, so its wise to only have one key/float, if you want it to work anyways.
