Anyone thought about building a winch for fun to goof around with? My son saw one of these and wants me to build one. We have a 3/4 acre pond in the yard and I can already see fun boxes and rails erected in the pond and my wife hating me.:D

Looks pretty straight forward and easy from some of the other sites I have viewed.

We have one, used it a bunch this summer behind out store to pull people across the pond where we have rails setup.

By buddy built one for the marina he has behind his house. It is pretty cool and they have definitely gotten the use out of it. He has done some really cool stuff with it.

wakeboard/ wakeskate in ponds, creeks, narrow coves and so forth. basically takes the place of a boat.

lengths very from 500-1000 feet

i have an 800' on there right now with plenty of room to go. So I think it can hold 2000'

Thats pretty sweet! Have you actually used one? What does the pull feel like? How do you stretch the line out? Swim it?

myself ive only riddin behind it at the lake in a small cove. parked my truck on one side and started from the other. No rails for me, as I would probably kill myself and not be able to ski! My winch has enough power to do a deep water start, but not ideal. Best is to slide of a box on the shore or rubber mats on the pool side.

the weird thing to get used to w/ a winch is that you're going the same speed starting or riding... we have a gator and a 4 wheeler at the farm we use... 2 winches and 2 handles and no need for atvs/oruvs anymore... pretty fun... haha first time to use one my friend under estimated the length of time it would take a roam board to lose speed in the pond and well let's just say he had to buy a new roam board after meeting up w/ some 300+lbs each rocks his dad decked around the edge of the pond... its much less forgiving than a cable park too... in the cable park the cable will flex down between poles when a person starts... a winch... you're moving...
