I have a 2007 X1. How do you change the oil in the V Drive and Transmission. Any special tricks to this. I'm a long way away from a dealer and would prefer to do this myself.

Run the transmission up to temp, remove the transmission dipstick, suck out the oil with a vacuum or electric pump, refill with 4.2 quarts of the same 15W40 recommended for your engine.

There is no separate V-drive.

Just do it like this guy, you can do all your fluids this way :D

But don't dump it in the lake

where do ppl usually route the oil hose to drain? If you mean engine oil drain hose, it will likely have to be routed out the rear transom drain on a V-drive. IMHO, by far the best way to do it is hook the drain hose directly up to the suction pump. That makes it a no-mess 10 minute job that can be done right on your lift or at the boat ramp. I modified my suction pump simply by added a 1/4" NPT brass female fitting with barbed end for the pump tubing- almost any hardware store will have that stuff. That way, it screws directly onto the drain hose. Hook it up, start the suction...empty of (warm) oil in a couple of minutes.

If you're talking about the transmission oil - again it needs to be warm, but there is no drain hose. It needs to sucked out by putting the pump's tubing right into the dipstick hole.
