I know that there are a couple people on here that own these boats, or are familiar with them. Have there been any issues with the engines or construction of the boat?

The 4010 carb is a potential issue. A search for "4010" on this board will yield you as much info as may exist on the subject. Other than that, from what I understand, it was among the finest hulls ever created by MC. But it's all about the maintenance. Search the forum for what to look for when buying an inboard. It's been discussed quite a bit. Good luck.

George is the man to talk to about the 1993 Stars and Stripes.

Shoot me an email and I'll email you the WSM review of the 93 S&S.

Oh, and check the trailer brakes good. They wrapped the brake lines with some sort of sheath that year and they were prone to rust. Check the fluid reservoir on the tongue. If it's bone dry, investigate the matter further. If not, check the brakes anyway. After 12 years, if nothing's been done, they might need some work, which can run you about $300 or more.

I will email the dealership and see if any changes have been made to the engine.

I have the same boat. I bought mine with 215 hours, now have about 425. Haven't had any problems with the carb......yet. Great wake, good pull for barefooting. I think it's one of the best looking boats MC has ever made. But of course that's because I have one. I'd never sell mine. I like it that much.

Eric, The 93 S&S is my dream boat also. I passed on a nice one a couple of months ago and I am still kicking myself for it. It went for $12,100 and looked to be in almost new condition.
Two weeks ago there were 2 of these on Ebay. Neither sold and the got bid up around the mid 11K area. One looked good and had the 351/285hp 1:1 drive and the other looked a little rough and had the corvette engine and the 1.5 drive.
I called about the one you have a photo of, I forget the details on it, I think the $$ sounded too high.
I like the blue, but I think I slightly prefer the red version, if for no other reason it will match my truck better.

Do you remember if there was something that you found to be wrong with it, or what was the reason to pass on it? Did they just not want to come down on the price?

Ok, so I have been doing some hard thinking about this boat, and the only thing that I am stuck on is the hours. At 970 hours, what can I expect to have to replace in the present or near future? I would hate to buy a boat and immediately have to start on repairs. Help me out here, what is the replacement schedule on engine parts? And how much is it going to cost me?

You really need Doug's used boat checklist and go through it on the boat. By the time you go through the checklist you will have your answer. Well cared for, you have a lot of "cheap" time on the boat. Poorly cared for and it will feel like that proverbal "money hole in the water".Goes without saying depends on how you take care of it also.

I plan on taking care of any boat that I buy, but you never know what happened in the first 900 hours?

 Doug,

Can you email me that checklist?

When you get to the boat and get it on the water, you'll be able to feel the boat. Personally I wouldn't sweat 900 hours providing it has been cared for. You can see that in the hull, interior, instrument panel (faded instruments can mean outdoor storage/exposure), gel coat appearance, engine appearance/sound, etc.... You'll know if it's a care boat or a trashed out boat but from the pics I have seen, I'd say it has been pampered. Every boat has a character of its own.

Did you go to see this boat, or just talk w/ owner?I talked to him on the phone. I am about 7 hours away from the boat but again, I say it's a good boat from what I have gathered in conversation and pics. Make up yEr mind young man. It will be gone sooner than later.... Go for it! I was just not on a schedule to go to the Burbs of St. Louis to get the boat or I'd had it in my gargage as we speak. ANd to boot, I'm really heart-set on a red color scheme, but this boat is perfectly fine for anyone (IMHO) :steering: .

 Doug,

Can you email me that checklist?

I don't have it as a file. It was a post. Do a search on here for "buying boat" or "what to look for" or "check list."

I also posted something off of the old M'bu board for what to look for when buying a new boat. It's somewhat applicable to used boats as well.

Nine feet wide will get you by. I'd want no less than 26 deep for ample room to maneauver. I currently have 3 bays, 12 feet wide each and 40' deep. I luVs my garage. I wish I had another 20 feet deep. All in all it's 40' x 40' x 12' high in the two outside bays and 14' high in the center bay.

I am just trying to figure how much driveway it would take up.

05-05-2005, 09:04 PM
Just measured. 9' is about minimum, like Sporty said.

For length, 26' is very nice. You could probably get by with 23'. If you put a folding tongue ($300) on there, you could get by with 21'.

Like I said before, I go ... Diagonally (pretty sneaky sis').

I put mine in a standard garage w/o the platform. Stays nice and clean and that way I can hear the ole lady light me up every time it rains and her SUV is outside. The garage is for the toys! Park that leased P.O.S. outside! :D
