I have a 2005 X-2 with the MCX motor, problem occurs while trying to engage forward/reverse gear and pick up throttle. I can engage both forward/reverse but then the engine won't pick up rpm's, it just stays at idle. At the same time the check engine prompt comes on and an alarm sounds. I've had a boat shop look at this, they figured it was the throttle actuator control, but after $950 worth of repair the same problem persists. Any ideas or help would be appreciated as they don't have any other ideas and now the boats been down for 6 weeks.

Hard to tell. Are you in limp mode? If you're getting a check engine, your dealer should be able to scan for codes. Somebody owes you $950. There is a throttle plug/pin connection on the engine. It's near the flame arrestor. Check to see if it's tight, then unplug it, clean it with some compressed air and plug it back it. Make sure it's tight.
I probably wouldn't check this one until you know for sure it is the problem, but there is another throttle plug/pin connection behind your throttle. Easiest way to check is to unscrew the panel. You'll need a star tool and a phillips. We didn't have a star tool and ended up messing up the panel a little  This one is more difficult to reach, but lay on the floor behind the drivers seat. Shine a light up towards the throttle, you'll see a servo looking thing with a plug and wires coming out of it. Again make sure it is tight, might be worth disconnecting cleaning and reconnecting if possible.
After all that said, it's probably not the problem. A code will tell you what the problem is. Good luck.....

I agree with sand2snow22. Does not sound like a mechanical throttle problem but it is consistent with limp mode.
The ECM error codes should tell you the problem. Was it an MC dealer or Indmar licensed mechanic who looked at the boat? Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds like the TAC is not reading any voltage coming from the actual Throttle (TPS/PPS Sensor). You can easily check if any voltage is coming through at both the previously mentioned connections with a multi meter. Don't quote me but I believe it ranges from 0-9.x V in most cases.
but after $950 worth of repair the same problem persists. .
What exactly did they fix for $950 if the same problem is still there? was that the examination fee?

There it is right there. This needs to go to an Indmar certified shop (preferably an MC dealer), with the correct diagnostic tools and knowledge. If this shop is certified, then I think they at least owe you the labor on the work they did that didn't fix the issue, especially if they gave it back to you still broken and made you test it out.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll check into some of those issues. I'm being told there is no longer a code being thrown when hooked up to diagnostic. It was a certified shop with Mastercraft technicians, wasn't a MC dealer though because the closest shop is about 2 hrs. away. Big mistake though, happy to drive the 2 hrs. in the future. The money went towards parts and labor to replace the TAC module. My dilemma is I don't really want these guys working on my boat anymore but at the same time I'm in to it $950 and still they haven't fixed the problem, before I go elswhere I would like it fixed or at least get some of that money back. Really don't know what to do. I'll be talking with the service manager again today and update then. FYI I live up in Nor Cal so if someone know of a trusted shop please give me the name. Plan to use Nor Cal Mastercraft but again I would like a testimonial from someone that's had a great experience.

I see you posted on Wakeworld, too. I've only heard good things from Nor Cal Mastercraft on Wakeworld. Sounds like their sales and service are top notch! But I have no experience with them.
I would call Nor Cal MC, explain the situation and see what they can do for you. They can at least scan for codes and see if these other guys are telling the truth. Sometimes you get a check engine from a low voltage signal, trick is finding the low voltage! You're in a pickle, good luck.

You got is sand2snow22, it's been a real pain. I called Nor Cal Matercraft today and scheduled an appointment next week, will be dropping it off Saturday. They seem to be much more reputable already, will let everyone know. As far as what been done already, well I'm still talking with the service manager at the other outfit and maybe we can get some sort of credit, funny thing is he mentioned maybe I just should bring it to Nor Cal MC because at this point they don't know what the problem is. I think it's a voltage/electrical problem as well, but as you know boats are different then cars and without the service manual, etc. it's even more of a pain. At this point I just want to get out and ride for what's left of the summer.
