So we had a great weekend of surfing, boarding and skiing on the X1. I got gas the first day but not the last 2 because it was $6 per gallon on the marina. The last day was shorter and I figured I was close but gas gauge read half a tank. (for any Newbie ignore the gas gague). got back the ramp and as my wife was pulling on the boat died. She coasted up and I loaded with the winch. Got back home and put 33.015 gallons in the tank. I guess the fuel pump in the X1 empties the tank completely or the tank holds more than 33gal. My take was perfect management, no extra weight to haul 3 hours home. Her take was "You should never let me get that close to running out of gas" (technically she ran out). Personally I felt it was perfect management>:D:D:D

My take  you need to read the fuel pump threads before you do that again :firejump:
Glad you had a good weekend :headbang:

I have to agree with the others, good luck with the fuel pump. If past history regarding that pump show us anything, it is just a matter of time before it leaves you in the middle of a lake somewhere.

Okay, so better safe than sorry I should have the fuel pump replaced with winter maintainence???

And if it turns out the pump is damaged, your "Perfect Management" theory on the gas vs blaming the wife for the "technically she ran out" goes straight to hell out the window!

For future reference don't let your tank go below a 1/4 or you'll burn up the pump.

I ran mine that low. ONCE.
Still same pump (fingers crossed)
Remember stated fuel capacity includes room for fuel to expand. Mine has 45 gallons and the one and only time I did this it took 46 before shutting off with the gas pumping at its lowest setteting to eliminate the dreaded back splash of gas.
Did the boat ever stutter or stumble?

Hey shamrock, It's only money and I figured if the gauge read 1/2 a tank I couldn't be below a 1/4, I guess you really really can't trust the gauge.

I think that is about the translation that I have come up with on mine... 1/2 on the gauge = 1/4 in the tank

Yea but now I know 3/4 equals 1/4, that must be new math.

I wouldn't replace the pump, just keep it in the back of your mind that you may need one in the future.

I never trust the gauge, I always look at how much is in the tank where the drain plug goes......Works for over filling, too!

On my boat, the "Warning Low Fuel" on the vdig comes on at over 1/2 tank, fwiw. And the fuel gauge reads less than 1/4 at that point. It doesn't bother me much.

I know this has been explained before but why do these fuel pumps burn out when below 1/4 tank. It doesnt seem like they should do that, doesnt happen in a car or motorcycle or really any other gas powered vehicle i have been behind. So why in these high priced, top of the line Mastercraft boats. Seems like they would try to fix this problem??

u can adjust it so it is closer to correct.
the boat is at such and angle when doing most things that we do that the pickup for the gauge has trouble getting it right. much less the factor of it sloshing around.

I'm with you X-15 :D this is the 21st century  they can't make a pump that doesn't burn out below a 1/4 tank? So I have a 32 gallon tank but if I don't want to buy a new fuel pump I actually have a 24 gallon tank  I'll check my manual but does it say you'll burn the pump below a 1/4 tank? or just don't run below a 1/4? IMHO this is an issue MC doesn't want to fix because they're making a bundle of $ replacing pumps.

I just went through my 1998 manual which covers the PS 190, 205, x-star and sammy series and nowhere can I find where it says not to run below a 1/4 tank
Does anyone elses manual say that

I did look at my 2006 manual and it does say not to go below 1/4 tank. I read it 3 times for the part where your tank may be empty regardless of the gauge reading but haven't found it yet. I agree that the reason I bought MC and not centurion is across the board MC was higher quality but this fuel pump issue is a definite need for improvement. My boat doesn't have VDIG and I'm going to ask my dealer to reset the gague so it says E at 1/4.
