View Full Version : Stereo Upgrade
I updated my stereo over the last 2 months.
Replaced the Clarion XMD1-RET with a Sony CDX7705. The Sony is a standard DIN and the hole the dealer cut for the Clarion was way too big.
Rather than re-fiberglass or make my own adapter plate, I bought this housing and basically used it as an adapter plate.
Replaced the Clarion wired remote with the Sony RM-XM10. The Sony won't fit :( . There are other remotes that will fit but they don't have the display.
Pulling the cable through the bow was a little tricky but got ‘er done with a little extra lube. Had a small adapter plate made from plastic. Will probably replace it and the plastic wood trim with aluminum some day.
Replaced the Clarion DC-625 six-disk changer with a Sony CDX-757MX ten-disk changer.
Added an XA-300 Aux In Selector so I can switch in an I-Pod, an Aux In headphone jack (other MP3 players), and the aforementioned CD changer.
Picture of the MP3 input to the Aux In #2
and put them all in one box
They give me immediate and independent control of the tower speakers, boat speakers and sub woofer

Nice.... thanks for sharing.
After losing 1 deck to the water hazard, I've considered moving the deck in my '94 from the driver's side to the glove box. Guess I could use the void from the old deck for the new remote & still have room for something else.

Bill, did you have a removeable face that you lost over the side or did you take a lot of water over the bow? Was it a marine tuner?

I had the stock MC cover over an automotive tuner. The button that holds the cover closed had broken long ago. I think the only water that hit it directly was from a water balloon. The following winter, the stereo died. Since then I've replaced the cover with one from Boater's World & the stereo with another automotive grade CD player. Works good in it's 3rd year. Maybe the next one I'll try a marine stereo, although I've heard mixed reviews about if they hold up any better.

Brother P-Touch labeler. Clear tape with white ink.

Do you still have the picture of your install of the Sony remote? I am thinking of getting rid of the Clarion and I also wanted a display on my remote.
Thanks

second that, i am interested in these pics too.
I guess they were deleted in the great photo purge in the summer of 05
I have added them back.
Here is a pic of the I-pod connector.
and the wired remote that I put right next to the I-pod with velcro

DanC,
Which remote are you using in your setup now, the marine or IR?
Nevermind, I saw your other thread where you discussed why you added the IR remote.

Dan,
Where did you get that stereo cover from? I am trying to decide how I want to plug the hole when I install my new DIN sized deck.
Thanks

The door is removeable so it works pretty well as just a panel adapter.
