I like old ones. Just some happy snaps I have laying around. Anyone else?

My old '51 Ambulance. Former Navy car with 23K orig. miles.

331 Caddy V-8 with a rare 3-speed manual tranny. Was gonna yank the engine and tranny and build an A-bone hot rod, but never got around to it before selling the Ambulance to some guy who collects Minis.

Yanking the 455 out of my High School ride: '69 Cutlass. Killed me, but the body and frame were toast from being stored covered on my Mom's yard back in Mass for over a decade. Motor now makes 800hp and 900lb-ft on Nitrous. Sold the car for $300 to a young guy who promised to restore it.

Not mine. Original Power Pack 283 in a '58 Vette I ran across one day at the chassis dyno. Those Rochesters are worth a small fortune now.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/chinhazel/IMG_3972.jpg
My old '70 Renegade CJ-5 that didn't make it.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/chinhazel/IMG_0114.jpg
Not mine. Cool old Buick woody wagon I stumbled on in La Jolla

Wasted valve guides and no ring seal on one of my old Chevy 350s

My (well, formerly mine) old '71 CJ-6.

Vintage heater out of my '48 Willys p/u.

Another roached 350 Chev and the Olds 455 before.

And the Olds 455 after.

Thanks - I really like this one - I just don't get a chance to drive it in the ATL all that much. It doesn't like the highway that much. If you drive a CJ on the highway for 10 miles, you will be peeing blood for a week.

Love the CJ's too as I had a CJ-7 (1977 I think) as my main car growing up. We had replaced the engine with a V-8 and added a bigger gas tank. We also had a plow put on it for the winter as I would plow out all the neighbors for money. I loved that car for all its faults. We even towed our I/O 21 ft Sea Ray behind it no problems. It looked almost exactly like the picture above except we had ours painted maroon/red with same wheels tire combo. We had the hard top for the winter and the bikini top for the summer. I sometimes want to buy one again.

Yeah - they have a loyal following. I don't have the hard top because I just drive this to the store or a bar for a game when the weather's nice. I bought this from an old guy who left it sitting in his garage for years. It is pretty insane but everything works on this - even window washer fluid. It was a great find but I thought I would be staying in CO. Nobody really appreciates them in Atlanta so that kind of stinks. Some dude in Liberty giving you the Jeep wave is like a dude in his Starcraft doing the same to the MCs. - Go back to Walmart!

That is a very nice CJ so if you were to sell it I don't think you would have a problem at all getting top dollar for it !!!!! So I guess the question is --- what you gonna sell it for ??

fletch_n_me
08-27-2008, 11:24 AM
I would let it go for 7500 or 8 at this point - that is what I paid. I have put 350 or 400 miles on it in the 3 years I have owned it - had it shipped in an enclosed trailer from CO. Thought I would use it a ton in the warm ATL weather but - alas.

My wife is kind of scared to drive it. It's big and bouncy and she loves to ride in it - along with the dogs - but I am the only one who drives it. Makes me sick to think about selling it but I just really have to face the fact that I don't use it.

For sure.... I was on a back road once with pot holes and everyone you hit felt like the jeep was going to fall apart. It actually broke the muffler in two from so much jarring.

The highway noise was deafening and the heater was good when it finally got going. The steering was squirelly almost at any speed. Still love the jeep.

Just picked this up the other day for a couple hundy. Buildup starts as soon as I finish the 4.0L & 5-speed swap into my '68 Jeep pickup.

I'll drive it with the stock 4-banger while I build the rest of the Jeep. Putting on a CJ front clip, dash, etc and then lifting it a little for 37s or 39s, 1-ton axles, and so on. Once it's done I'll toss in a 550hp engine, auto tranny, and an Atlas t-case. Should scoot up a dune pretty good or hit a rocky trail with no drama.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/chinhazel/IMG_3429.jpg

It's winter - the boat is sitting on the side of the house, and I've been putzing with the Jeeps. Got this little bugger coming along. Got a short 2.5-in lift on it, winch, some armor, new (small) tires, Detroit Locker in the rear, and alloy shafts in the axles. Rebuilding the T-case to withstand some real power next. Then I'll build a new cage to replace the factory one and then get started on the LS3 install and 4L80E tranny swap. After the engine swap happens I'll be blowing up axleshafts, so I'll probably do a Ford 9-inch in the rear and either a custom 9-inch or comparable in the front. Tires will be some "little" 37s. Probably won't be done before wakeboarding season starts, but it's good distraction until the river warms up a bit.
