How often do you guys change the impeller in the water pump? And is there one brand that is better than another?

I believe the manual and most people will tell you to do it annually. The problem with not changing it and living in a cold climate is that if it sits compressed and contorted at weird angles on the impeller veins over a long period of time and than you start it you may tear off veins etc. To be safe I change mine every year. I get my stuff from Ski Dim

Change it every spring then you won't have to worry all season. It is the best money spent on your boat. skidim.com can hook you up

Every spring. Johnson 812. If you choose to change it less frequently, pull it out completely when you winterize to avoid the compression problem Brian mentioned.

Every spring for me. I keep last year's around as a spare for all my buds who wait till there's are in pieces.

I just inspect mine every spring and would leave it in all winter. After 3 years I took it out this fall and will replace it this spring. Looks brand new. I found an easier way to disassemble the sucker so I'll probably pull it in the winter now, but doubt I'll replace it every year unless I start using my boat more.

East tx, no, as a matter of fact I don't do a darn thing to it.. I hate to admit it, as I am kinda a fanatic about taking care of my rides, but this just has never been a problem on either of my MC's...

I bought my 2001 190 with the LTR 330 2 weeks ago. When I went to check the impeller, the screws & cover were still painted shut from the factory. The previous owner had purchased it in Feb. of '01, and after 162 hours and 4 years, it looked brand new. Changed it anyway.

Better safe than sorry! Not an expensive part, but can lead to expensive repairs and time off the water.

I starting to think if you are in good water the need to change is really not that great. Mine has looked new every year even after sitting through the winter.

In my area, w/ the extreme winters I would be concerned about the effects the cold would have.

That was my father-in-law's philosophy, too, until he overheated and I was pulling impeller chunks out of his hoses.
