Been skiing the course a little less than two years now. My goal for this season is to ski 28' consistently and start playing with 32'.

I'm still learning to roll over so I can crawl, 15 off at what feels like 100 MPH but is probably closer to 28 MPH; first two (including gates) and the last two (including gates) hopefully this summer I can pick up 3 and 4

Personal best, I don't know. What comes after 43 off? Dumb rope doesn't have enough loops in it. ;)

4 balls at 22' off at 34 mph. This was back when I taught skiing in college for running around money. I'd typically ski the course about once a month with the ski team when they needed an extra driver.
Nowadays I ski a course about 4 times a season and can generally only get 3 or 4 balls at 15' off at 32.

2 at 22 off/34mph and it took me a few years to get there. I had time off for a few kids in between. I skied better after my kids were born. Go figure! I hope I can get to 34mph this year after my elbow surgeries.

My PB was the last day in the course last year.
I did a opener at 15 off 34 mph, then a full pass at 22 off 34 mph, with a broken jaw.
I broke the jaw the day before in the course.
Last year was when I started skiing in a course, but I was in it almost five days a week. :D

It's been a long time (we've had river difficulties the past 3 years) Full pass at 34 mph at I believe 28 off - but maybe it was only 22. I can't remember. I don't count anything that's not a full pass.

Full pass 28 off @ 34 mph.Didn't even tried 32 ...
Skiing a decent course (No more paint thinner jug) for 6 years and any grandma who would be skiing as much as i do would be on the Pro Tour ! I feel i have not improve in the last 2 seasons and looking forward to get some real imrovement this year.
My goal is skiing consistently 28 and take a look at 32 off !
Hope to get a couples of outtings with Brent from Montreal who with his partners gets into the 35 off range.

I've run 32 off/36 mph twice and scrapped 2 and 3 at 35 off each time. I hope to crack 32 more consistently this year. I've been skiing the course for about 8 years now - rapid progression at first, like a pass per year, esp. after getting on the Goode, but I've been stuck at 32 for a couple years now... Time for some lessons...

It was so long ago, it really doesn't count. But hopefully will have one that does by the end of the summer.
28 off @ 36mph, I can get a few balls at 32, but this season is just beginning so who knows what will happen. This will be my third season skiing course allot(am sessions, skiing 3-5 times a week), I had dabbled in it for a few years before. Jamie
4@ 22off 34mph (it may not count since I didn't first run my 15off pass)
if not, then mark me down for 5.5 15off 34mph because I got tired of fighting it and just shortened the rope :purplaugh

04-26-2005, 10:31 AM
For the progression of course skiing, what do most people prefer changing as they make advancements? Let's say you complete 15 off at 32 mph to start. Do you continue running 15 off until you can successfully do it at 36 mph before moving on to a shorter line length?
Or do you shorten up the line length to 22 off and run that at 32 for a while? What do coaches or schools reccomend, or what is protocol? That being said, I'm at the 15 off 32 mph mark.
I dont know, I'm an official hacker

04-26-2005, 11:08 AM
I'd say raise your speed to 36 before shortening the rope further (assuming 36 is your max speed). My reasoning is that in a tournament, if you start slower than your max speed you have to complete the passes up to your max speed before the rope get's shortened further.
John B
04-26-2005, 11:13 AM
Well if you go by tournament rules if you are under 35 years old, you stay at 15 off till you run a full at 36 mph.If you are over 35 only go to 34.2 mph.Once you shorten the rope the boat speed does not slow down.
But if you are just skiing the course for fun do it how ever you like.

That's exactly why I never skied 36 mph... I figured, at best - I'd be old enough to not need to ski 36 by the time I was ready :uglyhamme

That's just me. I do have many bud's who can't consistantly get a full pass - so they count balls. What ever it takes. Heck - if I wasn't getting around any bouys, then I'd have to count how many times my spray hit the balls! :toast:

5@ 35off 34mph is my PB. ran 32off most of the last half of last summer! But It is not the actual lenght that matters to me. it's an addiction, there is always a shorter rope lenght or extra speed to go for. The real beauty about slalom is bigginers & seasoned skiers can hang in the same boat & have a hoot together(the comraderie in skiing is great). I do most of my skiing with my wife & daughter & we all enjoy it !I really get bored down hill skiing with them .

No, he is an actor. His name is John C. Reilly. He has been in alot of movies such as The Perfect Storm, Whats eating Gilbert Grape, Boogie Nights, Never been kissed, For Love of the Game, and The Thin Red Line. My pb is 5.5@34 mph @-28. Missing that exit gate cost me a really close hair cut. I learned to pay a little more attention when the following words come out of my mouth. " or you can shave my head"
That use to be our standard bet among the ski buddies. We were always very careful to not use it unless we were sure of the outcome.
One evening at the lake my big mouth cost me dearly. Man did I look really stupid with a shaved head.
