Hey anyone local to Oroville? I hear the lake is 200+ feet down and that ramps are either closed or not useable. Can anyone local tell what the real truth is for this lake? I want to take a trip up there Aug 15th and not thinking that the lake is going to have a spot to launch.

The spillway ramp is still open (not much longer) and so is Bidwell. Try 530 534 2307 for level info or 411 Bidwell Marina in Oroville for ramp info.

According to this, http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/queryF?ORO, the lake is down 196 feet!

Thanks, but the sensor stops recording at 704 feet. I think it is 2 feet under that as of yesterday.

From Don at the water.ca.gov

Currently less than 704 feet, the lake level at Oroville is dropping rapidly…but boat launching is still possible.

Steel matting is in place at the lower launching ramp at Bidwell and will be adjusted as needed to accommodate boaters as the lake recedes. The spillway launching facility (asphalt) is still open but will close around elevation 700. Another area (dirt/gravel) just south of the spillway ramp east of the spillway gates will open shortly providing additional launching which will also utilize the same type mats as installed at Bidwell. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended when launching from the temporary ramps.

Specific information about daily launch conditions at Lake Oroville can be obtained by calling the California Department of Parks and Recreation at (530) 538-2200.

Lake Oroville elevations can be obtained by calling the DWR Lake Conditions Recording at (530) 534-2307, or accessing the DWR Web site at http://www.lakeoroville.water.ca.gov/about/stats/levels.cfm

Just got off the phone with one of the park people at Bidwell (530) 538-2218. Bidwell is open with steel mats, 4wd recommended, and no dock. Spillway is in the park persons words not officially open but will be officially open again soon. They are looking at losing 40 more feet before summers end. DUring that time, they will be extending the Bidwell ramp to help accommodate boaters.

Just back. Basically you can launch. Here are a couple of pics. This one standing at the end of the normal Bidwell launch

This one shows the steal mat that is used to launch 1 at a time. You have to drive down a really dusty temp ramp (going in probably isn't too bad, but wouldn't want to wipe down the boat after driving up from the lake :(
