LOL..................I talked to Knox a couple of days ago. You should have heard him telling this story!!! On top of that the starter on the generator went out!!! Aside form all of that he said he enjoyed the trip. He hasn't been on TT lately because of the trip and moving to SC.

Brian had a blowout on the way to MD (He swears it was because I asked him if he'd checked those old Marathons). A few ant bites and he was back on the road.

For those of you with older (pre 2005) Goodyear Marathons, watch them carefully. They have since changed the layup due to lots of tread separation.

I believe EST is referring to sidewall seperation. It will be a knot on the side of the tire. Happens on the inside or outside of the tire.

so a good once-over underneath on the backside sidewall would be called for as well then. thanks.

This is tread seperation, not sidewall failure or bubbles and Eastie lived it, it happened to his boat trailer tire.

This is sidewall seperation that hasn't blown yet and got ugly,

Change them, I had 2 bubble and start to separate on the same trip 2 yrs. ago, the tires were2 yrs. old. We were being followed at the time so it was way better than it was going to be.

i thought as long as you were the original poster, you could jack. ;)

so, i know what to look for now for the sidewall seperation (bubbles), but are there any warning signs of tread seperation, or just it just go boom?

I would suspect you would get a vibration like the tire was out of balance or a thumping sound if the tread had a bubble before it heated up and would seperate.
