View Full Version : New props
I am looking to replace the prop on my 1990 Maristar.
At present it is running a 13" 4 blade prop.
OJ reccommends a 13 X 11.5 LC 3-BLADE, 1" shaft.
Will this give me a better hole shot?
How does this prop compare to the ACME?
Thanks for the input

DrB, welcome. Brian M and I are both running Acme 13x12 3 blades. OJ has been has sent us 13x12 XMPs to compare. When I get my boat back in a couple of weeks, I will begin running both props through the paces. If you can hold off a bit on that purchase, maybe Brian or I will be able to give you some info from first hand experience. Until then, I know of at least one person who has posted about his comparison between the two props. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name. There has been plenty of talk about props on here lately that will probably answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks for the info. I can wait until you put both props thru their paces. I appreciate you passing this info on to me.

It's back at Correct Craft. That other dealer screwed things up and tried to rig my throttle cable by crimping the jacket. All I needed, apparently, was a new mount to get it back in line after the manifold was replaced.
Result, I need a new throttle cable. I will be reimbursed. I'd have taken it to SWCC in the first place, but I was under the false impression that they weren't taking new boats until they got moved. Should be two weeks. I'll never stray again.

why is your mechanic so slow? i had my tranmission go out under warranty on sunday on the water by followwing saturday. not mc my old boat. you would think a throttle cable issue could be taken care of the same day.

Where is SWCC moving to?

About 3 miles from my house. They'll be operating under the name "Ski N Sport." SWCC will remain up on I-20, but purely wholesale boats and parts. All retail sales, parts, and service will be in Tyler. I think they officially opened today, but aren't really open. My boat is at the old location in Lindale as we speak. Good thing, too because the new location doesn't have indoor boat storage yet.
The service manager called me late last week to make sure they hadn't caused the problem with my boat. He seemed legitimately concerned and wanted to make sure I was taken care of properly. You just don't find this kind of service as often as you should. He's technically not working for them while he's getting the new shop up and running. The guy's trying to start a business and he takes the time and burns a few cell phone minutes to follow up with a customer who doesn't even own one of the boats he's selling.
And I can't even get my nearest MC dealer to return my phone calls when I called to order over $600 in parts last summer. After the 3rd call, I just gave up. It's a good thing I love these boats so much.

They're the only tournament boat dealer within two hundred miles of here. With the move, SWCC is trying to continue service at its old location. They're understaffed and a lot of people have their boats in for service, dewinterization, etc. I could probably make an appointment and pull the boat to Houston and get it done in a day, but I've learned my lesson going for the quick fix. If I can help it, I don't want anyone else working on my boat anymore. They ordered the part the first day and called me to let me know they'd found it and it was on the way. Apparently, they couldn't get it through a MC dealer and had to go aftermarket.
Until it's back, we can use my father-in-law's boat. He's got smoother water down there anyway. It's gotten to the point where I'd rather drive an hour and twenty minutes for that good water than ski my local lake.
When the new baby gets here, we'll have yet another reason to ski there. Built-in babysitters.

How far is it to one of the Dallas dealers for you? I've had some very good experiences with the CC dealer in Lewisville.
Before I purchased my first ProStar, the CC dealer was the shop that the MC dealer sent my boat to to have the block replaced (the original owner let it freeze) and it ran perfectly for the 6 years that I owned it. The only reason that its gone now is that I just picked up a '99 OB Sportstar w/ 86 hours on it for my now larger family.

Hi, Jerry. Welcome. The only MC dealer in D/FW is the one who has lost my business. I've never dealt with the Slalom Shop, Waterski America, or Buxton on service. And I'm sure they could tackle the job. But at this point, I'm just going to leave it where it is. My alternate has always been Daryl Moore near Houston. The benefit with using them is that they work by appointment only, which, in the past, has meant that I could drop it off on Saturday morning and have it back that afternoon. Of course, I usually had to make the appointment a couple of weeks in advance. Since my local dealer stores the boat inside/covered, it all sort of evens out. My next trip to Houston isn't for several weeks and I'd prefer not to tow that far, especially since these guys (SWCC) have always overestimated the time, i.e. 3 weeks usually means 2 to 2.5 weeks.
All of my opinions aside, why was Texas MC farming its service out to the DFW CC dealer?
I'll be you're loving that Sportstar. Great boats!

maybe they didnt have room or staff to do a whole motor??? As I remember, TXMC used to be in a different location than the one they have now on their own lake. Their shop is pretty small now, I dont know how large it was at the other place?

Actually, it was back when the Slalom Shop sold Mastercrafts. I guess they just pulled it next door and Buxton do it for them. It appears that the Slalom Shop is servicing the brands that they sell and Buxton is servicing all of the other inboards.
I haven't been to TXMC since they opened their new facility so I don't know what they have going on but from the web site and talking to people it looks like it is pretty nice.

jrabin8 I guess you know you can still take your newer boat over to Buxtons. If your drivng from Mckinney the savings in gas should be worth it.

Since I work in LasColinas, the TXMC shop isn't all that much farther if I have something major that needs attention.

If you can get their attention, more power to you.
