I have seen several mentions on here of using Rotella T 15W-40 instead of transmission fluid. Is that applicable to all boats or certain ones? Is that something I should change in my 89 Prostar 190?

About time for a 700 hour service and I will be changing the transmission fluid. Wondered if it would help the rattling in idle speed reverse and forward.

Thanks all....

I would use transmission fluid. I used Mobil-1 Synthethic in my 98' ProStar.

Thanks all....IIRC the switch to 15W40 was only in later model Hurth V-drives/reduction transmissions. I don't think 15@40 is appropriate for those older boats, but you could call Indmar to be sure. I think it's more likely that rattling in an 89 is something else.

No way brother! Stick with a quality transmission fluid.

Sissy! Give me a handful of Rakkasans and we'll take Iran in one afternoon.
