I have a 1990 Maristar and recently it has been having trouble starting. For the past three years the boat has been on a trailer and put in the water by backing the trailer down a ramp. I would put the boat in neutral, pump the throttle two times and it would start right up. The boat was on a major angle. The year the boat is on a lift and not starting with the two throttle pumps. Now the boat is sitting flat on the water when started. The battery is fine, the starter only two years old and cranks. It sounds like not enough gas is getting to the engine. It will end up starting after a few minutes but I need to know what I can do to trouble shoot the problem. Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks

Choke maybe? To adjust the electric choke:

1. with the engine cool and off
2. open the throttle 1/2 - 2/3
3. loosen the screws and rotate the choke until the plate is just closed
4. turn back slightly to release the tension
5. tighten the screws

I dont think the incline really has anything to do with how it starts.

One other point, after the boat finally starts it has no problem starting up for the rest of the day. The problem only happens after sitting for a few days.

If you have a neutral safety switch that has gone bad, it could create an intermittent starting problem. I don't know if "neutral safety switch" is the exact name of the switch but it is wired to the solenoid and prevents the engine from starting when in gear. If the switch goes bad you will not be able to start.

Here is what it looks like, 38834 and can be found on the top starboard side of the transmission and can be found here, http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=R153011 or at a MC dealer.
