Clear a speedo while in the water [Archive]

I know I need to blow it out from the dash but can I do it in the water?

I do not see why not if you can get to the end of the hose. The hose where it connects to the back of the speedo is above the level of the water, so you should not have any issue with water coming in if the boat is not moving.

Sure you can.

At one time there was even a kit that you could buy to do it by pushing a button on the dash. The system used a BB gun CO2 cartige for propelsion.

Thanks Guys, After I posted I figured everybody was on the water so I called an old friend that still owns the 84 SS i fell in love with as a child. He set me straight.... Pipecleaner to loosen up the dirt dalber (PO had the tube open for lord only knows how long) and compressor to blow it out. runs like a champ, now if I could find a course and a stopwatch I can get the speed right.

If you havn't already updated the pitots with the newer style, do it, money well spent!

Gonzo, do you have a car GPS with the trip data screen, similar to this,

I used it in the boat along with the stopwatch method and it was dead on, the week before CSM '08.

Sounds like the way to go, on a smooth day I have a GPS unit that works with some software on my laptop... that would work. If not CSM 09 is just around the corner really, and thats the only time it will be important.
