I recently bought a 1987 prostar 190. Included was an owners manual that had spec sheets for a pcm 351. The thing that is confusing me is that the engine has an indmar thermostat housing. Any ideas?

I don't know for sure, but I am fairly certain that MC switched from PCM to Indmar in '85 or '86. If your t-stat housing is stamped Indmar (as mine is), you probably have an Indmar. There are several pictures of mid 80's engines on this site, take a look around and see if you find one that matches yours.
Welcome aboard!
Kevin

I have not heard of MC using PCM motors from boats of that vintage. Most were Indmar Ford 351s.

Check the ID tag on the inside of the starboard valve cover to be 100% sure, but I'd put money on it being an Indmar.

I figured as much with the T-stat housing but was a little unsure because of the included paperwork. I'll check for teh ID tag.
Thanks again guys

Engine color for a PCM is silver in most cases and Indmar would be black!
What is cast into the sides of the exhaust manifolds, MasterCraft Power or PCM Marine Engines.
This is a Indmar 351,

Harold, shouldn't the lettering on your spark arrester cover read 5.8 LITER, not 5.8 LITRE?

edit: nevermind.... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litre)
