Does anyone have a rough FMV on a '99 190? 180 hrs., nice shape, tower, some sun fade on upholstery, 310 PCM, no trailer, white/red.
Thanks much...Gord

Gord, welcome to the board. The information you're looking for can be found at www.nada.com. I'd guess that your in at least the $20K range with the tower.

Thanks...that's about the figure I had in mind. Still waiting for the ice to go out although it's really early this year.

WIthout a trailer I would guess in the 15-16K range. Does it have the finned rudder, 4rth tracking fin, or the other add on pieces that I cant think of what to call them? I think most people will agree that the 98-99-2000 years were the least desirable for MC's 190 series boats. It could be a real bargain if your not going to primarily use the boat for skiing.

Thanks for the advice...'98, '99, '00 models you feel are less desireable. Is this due to hull design or poorer quality or what? How is the wake for slalom and barefoot? I believe it has the three fins or skegs.
Thanks...Gord

It seams to be a perception of mostly those that have never skiied behind them. The wakes are great. If you like the boat, ski behind it, and see what you think yourself. I have a 98 and it is great.

The 99 will have hydrofoils on the rudder, a fourth skeg, and hydrorails at the rear of the hull on each side. As MasterMason said, your opinion of the wake, pull, and overall performance of the boat is the only one that matters. Go ski behind it and drive it for at least an hour. If you have the opportunity, drive other boats and see how they compare. Then get the best one for you.

Looks like I opened up a bit of a scandal with that question...just wanted to know if there is anything inherently wrong with that model year Prostar. Doug, what effect does this rudder hydrofoil and hull mods have on the boat over other years?

Gord, I have not skied behind the 1998--2000 Prostar 190. My father in law's 1998 boat is a PS 205 and was based on an earlier (95-97) hull design. Thus, any opinion about that boat or its wake that you'd hear from me isn't worth anything more than if you asked me how the wake was behind a 91 Brendella (I haven't skied behind this one either). Of course, if I said anything good about the Brendella or any other boat brand for that matter, that'd be like hitting a hornets' nest with a baseball bat and we could all take a few sets on the river of tears. (sort of an old joke).
Farmer Ted has a 98 190 and had it retrofitted with the hydrorails. Ric had a 2000 190. I'll let them offer opinions on the subject.
If they don't chime in, perhaps you could email teammc@mastercraftboats.com. If they email you back, please let us know what they say.
Again, ski behind lots of different boats and decide which one you like best.
Definitely ski it and drive it before you even think about making an offer
My 2000 had all the stuff mentioned here, 4th fin, rudder foil and hydrorails
I'm no pro but I thought the boat had a great wake and good course tracking.
Plenty of MC bashers out there that will tell us these were bandaids or whatever, but it was an all around great boat and nothing to sneeze at.
Not one of those add-ons to that range of 190's will hurt the boat's longevity in my opinion as I put a couple of hundred hours on mine after buying it through a promo dealer with a hundred hours on it.
add for tower, take off for fade, no-trailer and 310 motor and probably be around 17k if low hours.

My reply was in no means meant to be a personal attact, but my opinion based on skiing behind many different ski boats. I am no MC basher, I love MC's, my old 92 190 is still my favorite inboard that I have owned.
The resale on these year boats is slow and lower than their competitions of the same years. Not to mention that the market for closed bow boats is smaller then open bow as it is. Consider that if you think you may outgrow this boat and want another in a couple of years.
This being said, the only consumer that needs to be pleased with the purchase is the person who asked the original question. So if you like the boat, and the price, purchase it.
4th fin means no bat turns, so factor that into your decision too ;)

I can whip bat turns all day long, it's all about momentum. The older MCs probably do it better because they have flatter rear ends.

Interesting...... I know a guy on Sammamish who has a '98 190. And on a wakeboard, with a fat sack in the back, he's able to pull Around the Boats behind it without much problem. Not quite a bat turn, but close.

I never could do it.
My old supra was easy to flip around so I gave up after a few trys on the 4 fin prostar

To quote my avatar. "Do or do not. There is no try. That is why you fail."
Just a little more wetted surface to contend with. It doesn't take anything to spin an older boat. You guys have to sacrifice the ease of bat turns for better tracking.

I skied and drove a lot of hours behind '98 Prostars. The 4th fin was part of the Positive Pressure Tracking System of that era ('98-'00) Prostar. The 'ad ons" were the wing on the rudder and the hydrorails. The boats I drove and skied all had the winged rudder but no hydrorail.
I thought they skied great, absolutely handled like it was on rails and in my opinion was one of the best looking boats MC ever made. They do do bat turns with 4 fins you just have to try a little harder. As someone said above you sacrifice easy bat turns for tracking.
As others have said above, drive it and ski it and if you like it buy it and enjoy it. They are great boats.

I recently purchased a 99 190 with trailer for 17500, had 400 hrs. You know those suckers that have older mastercrafts, before fuel injection have their probelms too. What a great price for a world class ski boat.

You said it, Larry. Don't get me started on the 4010 carb. Thanks for the headache MC. Other than that, no problems that I haven't created though. 8p

mine has the winged rudder, the hydro rails, and the 4th fin. Drives like the Vette that is powering it.

I will agree, the new SN 196's are sharp boats.

I've always thought Nautiques sound funny... Kind of a spitting noise rather than a V8 rumble. In my advancing age I can appreciate quiet boats though. Especially if it keeps the neighbors at home and not complaining about the skiers.
