Was at the lake today and after playing all day and loading my boat I realized I had a nail in one of the trailer tires. In the course of changing the tire I found that the lug nuts Had seized themselves onto the threads.Four came off but I had to snap the fifth off because of the rust. What is the maintanance that should be done and how often should it be done to prevent this from happening.
A little anti-seize compound on each stud and shoulder. They should be checked annually.

If the wheels are aluminum, use a torque wrench when you tighten them, if you can. Uneven tightening can cause wheels to deform, if it's bad enough.
Three stages- 75 ft-lb, 95 ft-lb and then 105 ft-lb. They should be loosened and re-tightened periodically, too.
