It is usually what the tricker is comfortable with. In out daughters case, it was 15.5mph for hand tricks and 16.0mph for toehold tricks. Believe me, a good trick skier can tell as much as a 1/4mph difference. That is why in most cases a trickers partner/parent/coach/etc. is usually in the boat during their passes to tell the tournament driver what speed and to pull the trick release and you can bet the judge is paying attention to the person in the boat and the drivers instructed speed.

Are you on a trick ski or a wake board? I hope it's not on a trick ski, that's scary!

Yea, they do not handle well at that speed and the result hurts..... bad..... been there.
Driver claims he forgot trick speed was slower than slalom.....

Hmmm - sounds like I am a little fast then (although I haven't calibrated my PP lately). I am doing side slides and 180's to start. Been very inconsistent - completing only about every 4th or so tries. Just have to keep at it (and maybe slow the boat a little).

GPS and time/distance checked 19.4 mph for me. But I weigh 240lbs so the speed is more of a necessity than a preference.
