Our club has required (unwritten) membership in USA Waterski for the liability protection. I have spent a ton of time on the phone with them, my own insurance agent and several members over this issue.
USA Waterski has given conflicting information on their 1M club liability policy. They have stated we are protected if a non club member uses the course or our docks without our knowlidge. They have stated that if a non member uses with our knowlidge, we are not covered, and suggested we force people away. {Like that's going to happen on a public lake}. they have stated even if a member is using the equipment, if we have even one person present who is not a member, the coverage is void, including extended family, friends, even the newborn.
Has anybody spent any time trying to get a straight answer?
An attorney, and club member, actually made the ridiculous statement that USA Waterski would even cover a meeting held at somebody's house. They laughed at that one.
As I see it, if in fact they insist every single person present be a member, then we will never meet the coverage requirements.
On a side note, there is an insurance requirement for towboats (what for nobody knows) of 500k liability with USA Waterski as named additional insured. For grins, I asked my insurance agent hypothetical, and of course she wanted to hypothetically know why. Apparently if I request the named insurance for the clubs annual exhibition show, my insurance company will grant the name additional insured, but exclude the show. But, there is not an exclusion in my policy for an exhibition type show.
