So is it worth the price???? Should it hold it value, I may keep it 5 years or so.

I would not hesitate. I went looking for a 205 prior to buying my 209 and I could not touch anything that was decent under 20K. That was a few years ago. This is a good price and the 205 hull has great reviews.
I would ask the seller if you can have a mechanic look it over and do a compression test. He should agree, if not he may be hiding something.
Tell your wife she can have you any night of the week, not just on the weekends!
Good luck!

Nice boat. The best thing about that boat is the hull. It is very versatile and what you will find is that it is pretty popular with skiiers. It has a decent slalom wake, and with ballast it will throw a pretty good wakeboard wake. I've never footed behind one so I can't speak for the wake that way.

The only thing I don't care for is the tower, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The black is paint, the stripes & Logo are decals. You can't see it in these pics but the red is reflective and looks awesome in different light.

Ours is a 96 and we love it! It was quite a bit cheaper than that but it also has 1000 hours on it and was not taken care of very well cosmetically. Also it doesn't have ballast or much of a sound system. So sounds like a good deal to me. It runs great and the wake is unbelievable for skiing at 35 mph with a good lip at 22 mph for wakeboarding or whatever.

Mine's a '92. I don't mind the Monster Tower. It's solid and silent. The only issue is having to tighten it up once in a while.

I'm real happy with mine. I didn't pay that much for it but I did have to do some cosmetic work on it. Not happy with the 13th floor tower - looks good but creaks like crazy.

I have the same issue with my tower but I like it when its tight. I haven't really calculated fuel mileage yet. I know its not good which is why I am avoiding it.

To late, he wouldnt budge:( so i took it at $17500. Its more than i was looking to spend but hard to resist a mc, and this one is really well kept along with the tower speakers ballast p.p. most of which i was going to do anyways.

I just realized I skied behind this boat earlier this year. Skis like a 205 should. Also saw someone pull a longline footer behind it. So the top end is there. Congrats on your new boat! You're going to like it a lot!

I've seen people spend more than that for a second generation 205. The fact that you don't have to mess with installing perfect pass should make up for that difference pretty quick. NADA devalues Perfect Pass IMO. But the used market for it just doesn't allow for too many deals to be had. I've gotten good deals on my last two boats, but had to do lots of upgrades to make them exactly like I wanted them. The price of not having to mess with that mid-summer is hard to gauge.

From what I can remember, it was in good shape and ran well all weekend. Pull seemed strong and the motor sounded good. I recall that it hit mid forties wide open like it should. I didn't go into every nook and cranny like I would have if I was thinking about buying a boat, but I can tell you that it happily pulled us up and down the river all weekend on slalom, wakeboards, and bare feet.

I have owned two boats and bought both of them at about 9 or 10 years old. In my case, neither was perfect, but what's not perfect can be fixed and, in my experience, they hold their value extremely well.

You'll definetly see a difference from the 4 banger to the V-8 but from my experience these boats don't do too bad on gas, I have the 5.7 300hp and we can play all day on a half a tank.

Enjoy the new ride :toast:

Congrats on the new ride! I have spent several weekends in and behind THAT boat and have enjoyed every minute. It has a great all around wake for skiing and boarding and has been nicely upgraded. Doug has taken good care of her and she will be a great introduction to the MC and inboard family.

If I was not on the road, I would post some pics of her in action, but I guess Etx beat me to it.

Have fun in your new ride.

2000 PS 205

We love our 205! We went from a PS 190 (1987) to this. It has tons of room, good slalom wake, good wakeboard wake, etc. If you are a "day" boater (trailer somewhere), it has plenty of room and crossover appeal. I just can't believe they stopped making the DD 205. I thought I read somewhere (can't cite it) that the DD 205 was the best selling all time "inboard ski boat."

Best selling MC (best selling open bow as of January 2000) and longest running hull in MC history (still used as the X-1).

It's a great all around boat. I've footed and ridden my ski sky(2nd knee injury) behind it several times. He also has a great set up for surfing. I have a 2002 Prostar 205V. Yes, its a V drive, but an awesome boat. The hull is excellent for Slalom skiing 30mph to 34mph the wake is flat like a 209, but when you slow down to 18 mph to 20 mph, it throws up a nice wake for wakeboarding. I know its a different set up, but I believe the hull is almost identical. I have never regretted this purchase...

Those are two completely different boats, but they're both sweet!

X5 is the Sportstar OB (95--97 190 hull), which is different from the 96--2000 205 DD.

The hull is, as far as I know, exactly the same as the 205 direct drive 96 and up. They changed a few things above the water line in 99 on the direct drive, but the hull, be it direct or v-drive has not changed to datee.
