I have found a Prostar 209 Sammy Duvall with only 36 hours on it. It is a 2002, was this a good year? I am fairly new to the MasterCraft world, and would like to guidance. The boat seems to be in almost perfect shape, but is there anything i should know about this year of boat?
Thanks in advance.

Never heard of any particular problem with the 209.
This boat got very low hours...Nice skiing wake and more then respectable wake when loaded.Should be a nice family watersports boat.

Sten,
Welcome to the board. I just acquired a 2002 209 and am very happy. I fell in love with the 209 after ridding in a friends last season. It handles rough water well, is AWSA approved, handles 12 people for a day on the lake and is an overall great boat for skiing and wakeboarding. She had 130 hours on her and has been great so far. I have been out in it 3 time and have had no problems. Good luck on your purchase and post some pictures when you join the club.

You are in luck Sten76, we love these questions here!
Which engine?
Also maybe a little more info on how you will use it, number of people, what you will do with it, skiing, boarding, footing, tubing, riding, etc.
Somewhere on the board I believe Doug posted checklist to go through before you buy, things to look for and ask.

It's got the 330hp engine. We will be using it for all water sports, if it can be towed behind a boat, we will probably do it at some point. We do not have children yet, but they will come in the next couple years. Mainly friends now. I will look for the checklist, but if you have it handy, can you post it again on this thread?
Thanks

I think you are looking at a great boat then, assume that is the LTR1 330HP, what I have also, love it and hear great things about it. There are times I wish I had a smaller boat that would fit in the garage, I have a 230VRS but when I'm on the water with 3 kids I appreciate the extra size.
Good job Sporty, you can see why I didn't even try to remember it.....

I have a '02 209 that I bought new in late '03 and so far have no complaints (only used it last season). Roomy, nice handling and great finish. Plus it gets lots of compliments!

I have a 2002-209 and we really enjoy it. I have however had problems with the gel coat and they are currently replacing the hull at MC in Tennessee. I have the 310 HP engine and it does fine - more HP will only help. We have the tower which is great, so we ski, wake board and barefoot with this boat. It is a great all around boat and the design is very eye catching. Make suer you look at the finish very carefully and see if there are any hairline cracks. MasterCraft has stood behind thier product - and if you are working with a good dealer, that will really help the situation - so find yourself a highly reccomended dealer.

Are these gel coat problems isolated to more modern boats? I don't seem to have an on my '91, but I've been getting paranoid lately hearing everybody else talk of them so much.

If I could "guess" I would think two things.
1. Some bad resin.
2. Or more likely some bean counter found a cheaper resin or some new resin MC was trying out.......
Yes, it's a MasterCraft.
You will not be disappointed. I bought a 2004 210 VRS with 108 hours on it and absolutely love it. Great boats!

While I'd love to take credit for that list, for the record, I got that info on the old Malibu Owner's Board. I did post another list somewhere more specific to used boats that might be helpful.

Certainly I like the PS 209 as do others judging by their testimony. I think the 2003 model received the "hook" in the back, so your's may not have it (mine doesn't, and it porposes at speed).
Mine fits in my garage...barely. It IS big and doesn't ski as well as a PS 190-197 obviously, and some say not even as well as the PS 205V/X2 V-drives.
Most consider it a "cross-over boat" or one that is pretty good for boarding or skiing, but not the best for either.
We love it because it is the biggest, most family-friendly boat ever created that is still AWSA Tournament Approved.

A SD 209 with only 36 hours? Is this the Chaquita banana boat that was on Ebay recently?

Do you know about the boat from ebay? What would I be looking for to make sure the gelcoat is ok?

cracks ro bubbling I believe. I think the cracks will look like a spider web. I'm sure others will chime in who have more experience with the problem though.

He is right about the cracks, they will spider.

I am having trouble with my connection. I will try to post a picture of the cracks that I had in the gel coat tomorrow. Just inspect the boat carefully and you should be fine.

The boat is still under warranty for a few more months, but will MasterCraft still stand by their product if I notice cracks or spidering after the warranty is up? It almost sounds like there is a bad batch of resin.....

If I am not mistaken the warranty is only good for the original owner....I not sure if that includes the hull. I believe you can transfer the warrany for $500 or so. You should check with the local dealer.

I also own an 02' 209 and saw the Banana on ebay. I was a little suspicious of the pics and location. I would thoroughly check the boat over. Mine has about 75 hrs on it, and I think that's low. I have to wonder why only 36 hrs?? We are a family of 4. We slalom, tube, wakeboard etc. and love the size and flexibility of our 209. Good Luck!

Here is a picture of what the gel-coat cracks look like on my boat. If you have enough resolution on your screen there is a hair line crack in front of the tower at about 3:00 that extends into the shadow of the picture. I had quite a few of these all over the boat, in both the upper and lower hull.

He IS NOT BUYING A MALIBU !!!
Had to point that out. Be detailed in your process of locating a boat.
You WILL NOT find a WEDGE DOOR on a MasterCraft

We have the 2004 209--We love it. Great to ski from. We had a 190 previous. this boat does everything as well, though we wish it had the powerslot. We have the MCX which is enough, though we loved the extra go go of the powerslot.
good luck
P.S. no gel coat problems hear, though would like to be informed of what others are doing with this problem and if mastercraft is taking care of it..
P M me if anyone has any procedures if I do have problems..
