Hey guys still tryin to figure out my non-running motor issue, and talked to skidim about wire set up for the distributor and coil and notice that they are not set up like skidim said. purple to + and black to - of coil. Skidim said the purple should be on the - of coil and the black needs to be on engine ground. Does this sound that the reason why the motor is just turning over and not firing??? I don't want to get my hopes up for the holdiay weekend.

Purple is ignition +. It needs to have a wire going to the points in the distributor and on the same terminal, it should have a gray wire for the tach. If the gray wire is grounded, it won't run and this was a cheap & easy way for people to keep their cars from being stolen, before security systems came along.

Jim,
So why did SkiDim say that that purple wire should be on the neg side of the coil with the gray tach?

I don't know. I would call again and ask for a clarification. In boats, purple is +12V ignition.
