Anyone know what I should time my 1979 Stars/Stripes PCM 351 Ford motor to?

The PCM owners manual says 10*, but the service manual says 6*?

Pulled the distributor to replace it and now I need to time the motor before I go to sea on the 4th!!!

Thanks!

HMMM I have conflicting information from PCM - in the owners manual it says 10* BTC but in the SVC Manual it says 6* BTC????

6* BTC --- Found it on page 179 of this manual:

10* BTC --- Found it on page 9 of this manual:

EDIT: Sorry for the links to the dark side - I was desperate for manuals!!!

Although there is a factory "spec", this is a conservative spec, designed to be safe under any and all conditions. For YOUR elevation, temp, octane, etc, "feed it what it wants". Take the boat out, w/the engine cover off, and have someone run it up to WOT throttle and hold it there. While runing WOT, carefully move the distributor to achieve MAX RPM's. There will be a bit of a "plateau" where the movement of the distributor doesn't little to nothing. Make your final setting on the "retarded" side of that plateau, and you're done. Your boat won't run any better than that, no matter what "the book says"...not to mention, you won't have to worry about conflicting data from two conservative sources.
