I have an BB 8820 but it's cumbersome and the interface sucks

the interface is the experience

I have had an iphone for about a month and really like the interface it is easy to navigate.
There are a few things it still needs (ie copy paste function and better picture text, some of these are coming with the update ) but all in all excellent phone

If you wait till the 3G comes out (I think july 9)comes out the phone plans are going to increase the monthly cost and drop the price of the phone.

Oh yea my service is $80 a month
I think that is 450 anytime minutes
unlimited data

AT&T is going to increase the data plan by $10. Note that to upgrade from a previous AT&T phone, you have to be contract-eligible - otherwise I think you have to pay full retail price rather than the AT&T subsidized price of $199.

Advantages of the new phone are 3G (fast-but you'd have to make sure 3G is offered in your area), the applications (there will be a huge variety) and the fact that Apple is now licensing ActiveSync, so it will do push email, contacts and calendar from Microsoft Exchange.

If you've never used an iPhone or iPod Touch, go to an Apple Store and try it...they are very, very cool.

BB > iPhone

I have both an iPhone and a BB. In my opinion, blackberries are truly pathetic. With the new iPhone's capability to work off outlook servers, etc. it is going to totally trump the BB.

The iPhone interface is so easy to use and so user intuitive. I definitely drink the Apple Koolaid, but watch out for Apple... they are really picking up steam.

I don't have an iPhone (won't work on our in-hospital cellphone site, which is CDMA)...but I have an iPod Touch which works great as a PDA on our in-hospital WIFI. Currently I can get my email on it via OWA, but if the Touch supports ActiveSync, that would be better. I have a Motorola Q instead of an iPhone. I've never used a Blackberry, but as to the Q, I can tell you that Windows Mobile, especially by comparison to the iPhone, REALLY sucks. Bad.

I use my blackberry almost exclusively for e-mail. IMO the Blackberry e-mail is much nicer than the iPhones, but perhaps they've changed that. I'm sure the iPhone's browser and interface is nicer, but I have no problem syncing my Blackberry for appointments and to keep my phone book organized.

For those that want a DATA plan , I found a way to get ANY sprint phone with 500 anytime minutes (7a-7p), unlimited nights/weekends, unlimited TEXT and unlimited Data for $30/month...

I just picked up a HTC Mogul, has WindowsMobile 6, its a pretty cool phone with a ton of hacks, I use it as a wifi hotspot and can use my wifi laptop to connect to it while I sit on the dock. Pretty sweet!

I'm not knocking the iPhone though - thats a sweet little toy too! Just $100/mo seems excessive!

Otherwise known as Sprint's unlimited data plan. Yup, $30 for the whole thing. I have the HTC phone and don't know that I'd want to give up my qwerty.

For $99/month, sprint offers unlimited voice/data.

No, as an example...my Treo drops them like hot potatoes where the iPhone my wife has does not.

Only problem I have with the iPhone is that the call quality is not that great. Blackberry is far superior in that right.

Not in this case, everyone else in my house has verizon and their calls do not get dropped. All various models, I also never had a problem with my previous, non-smart phones.

Verizon has basically told me that there is nothing wrong. On the other hang I get awesome data service even where I dont have decent phone service.

I love my iphone. Simply put its like having a computer in my hand. I can do everything with it and sometimes feel like a business person if I check my email enough lol. My service comes out to $81.44 a month. That is the 59.99 plan and then a 10.00 text plan. so then when taxes are added it puts it up alot.

One of the coolest things...atleast to me, is that when you make ringtones you have the ability to make any section of the song into a ringtone on itunes. Only problem with ringtones is the songs can't be imported from say limewire or a cd. I guess there is a special encryption that only lets them work if you downloaded them from iTunes.

I have no idea what BB I have. Work issued it and I use it, but I must say there is not one thing on this phone that is superior to the iPhone... email and sound quality included.

My biggest problem with the BB is the way the interface combines the Call Log, Messages, Emails, etc., etc. into the same folder. It would be so much easier to be able to look at my phone and see I have 1 missed call, 7 text messages, 3 emails, etc. etc. rather than digging through the one log for everything... I just don't get it. I would imagine that this arrangement can be changed, but why would they ship the phone out with this poor setup???

Love my iPhone. I will admit to it being a little expensive, but out of all the cell phones I've had in my life it's hands down the best.
Two things I'm not real fond of. No picture text on the older versions, and texting can be hard if you've got hot dog fingers like me.
Truth be told it's a great tool, and having all the capabilities in 1 package sure is a nice feature.

You can change the way all of the logs are, it is a little intuitive but it can be done. Try changing the theme to "Today" under settings

The CEO of our company is a tech geek and got all the executives an iPhone the day they came out, so I'm sort of stuck with the 4Gig model. It'll hold some of my music and a few movies, but the 8Gig (or bigger) would be nice. It's a great PDA and is very user-friendly, but the phone function leaves something to be desired.

I was previously on Verizon, so I'm not used to poor reception and dropped calls. Also, while the glass screen wipes clean easily and steel body is very durable (I've dropped it with no damage) the button started sticking on my first phone and they swapped it out for a replacement at my local Apple store. Got the extended service plan for the new phone and I'm ready to use it again. Just went on a shooting trip out in the desert and the 125-degree heat fried the phone's battery and it won't hold a charge now. The battery is fixed internal like the new Apple laptops, so I need another phone replacement.

Great phone if you're using it in a business environment, but it's not exactly as durable as a Rolex. More like a Timex digital from the late '70s.

If you get an iPhone I would go with a SquareTrade warranty. Not much of an expense for a three year swap out plan. I think ours was less than $100.

Sodar, that looks like a slightly older model BB. The new ones have amazing call clarity. Like I said though, that is my ONLY complaint about the iPhone and that is not a major one as it is still better than most phones out there. It is a fine piece of technology.

Another thing I would get is the InvisibleShield protector from ZAGG. Far and away the best protection from scratches you can get.

Here's some of the final info on the iPhone from AT&T.

AT&T has announced detailed pricing information for its iPhone 3G plans and will start selling the iPhone 3G at 8am on July 11th in the U.S.

http://images.macrumors.com/article/2008/07/01/095736-att_nation_chart_400.gif

http://images.macrumors.com/article/2008/07/01/095802-add_text_chart.gif

AT&T also confirmed that they will be subsidizing the price for new and current iPhone customers at the WWDC announced price of $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB). Thess prices are specifically available to these customers:

- iPhone customers who purchased before July 11
- Customers activating a new line with AT&T
- Current AT&T customers who are eligible, at the time of purchase, for an upgrade discount

For AT&T customers that are ineligible for the subsidized pricing, AT&T is offering an "early upgrade" price of $399 (8GB) and $499 (16GB). You can check your eligibility in your online AT&T account (screenshot).

Finally, AT&T is offering an unsubsidized price of $599 and $699 at a later date as a "no commitment" price for individuals who do not wish to sign a long term contract.

AT&T is offering a common questions guide for existing and new AT&T customers about the iPhone 3G.

That is what I am worried about also. AT&T works AWESOME at home, but up around the river, it is not so hot, so I usually take my work Blackberry from Verizon so I can have a phone at the river. I am a little worried about giving up my Verizon service for my weekend vacations out at the river. Maybe I will just buy a prepaid phone for the weekends, since I probably use my phone about 20 minutes total out there.

Looks like the new version of the iPhone (3G) is a pretty big hit. They sold over 1 million of the things over the weekend after its launch on Friday...21 states are completely sold out as of yesterday morning, according to Fortune Magazine.

Anybody ready to comment on version 2.0 of the iPhone/iPod Touch firmware? App Store? The upgrade costs $10 for the iPod Touch, whereas its free on the iPhone.

I upgraded my iPod Touch. I'm very impressed with the initial offerings from the App Store and the functionality of the iPhone and iPod as a mobile computing platform and internet browser. It would be helpful if I could get them to get rid of the LEAP encryption on the WiFi network here at work.

Quite the phenomenon..

There was a lot of scoffing when Steve Jobs stated his target was 10 million iPhones sold by the close of 2008. They did it with three months to spare.

"During a press conference call Wednesday, Apple revealed that iPhone was responsible for 39% of the company's revenues in Q4 2008. Due to Apple's decision to report iPhone earnings as subscription revenue over 24 months, however, these numbers are not reflected in the $1.14 billion net profit and $7.9 billion in revenue reported yesterday. If they had been included, this would represent an additional $3.8 billion in revenue and an additional $1.3 billion in net income.

As noted by many, the size of this number is remarkable for a product that has been on the market for only 15 months. Steve Jobs highlighted the significance of the numbers by putting Apple's iPhone sales into perspective:

- Apple sold more iPhones than RIM sold Blackberries in Q4 2008
- In terms of revenue, Apple is now #3 amongst mobile phone vendors behind Nokia and Samsung and beating out Sony Ericsson which falls at #4.

When questioned about Apple's plans for the future in face of increasing iPhone competition, Jobs suggested that they would continue to aggressively price the iPhone and make ongoing improvements:

"Well, I think we have to be the best and I think we have to not leave a price umbrella underneath us, and we are working very hard to fulfill both of those goals."

In other iPhone news :) AT&T posted their 3rd quarter earnings with strong wireless division gains lead by 2.4 million iPhone 3G activations in the quarter, 40% of which were new AT&T subscribers. Adjusted earnings dipped slightly due to the subsidies placed on the iPhone 3G and hurricane related expenses.

AT&T highly values iPhone and other smartphone subscribers due to their lucrative data plans that have "significantly higher [average revenue per user] and lower churn than postpaid subscriber average."

As to Apple's overall performance....Apple announced their financial results Wednesday for the 4th quarter of fiscal 2008 . Apple posted revenue of $7.9 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.14 billion, or $1.26 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $6.22 billion and net quarterly profit of $904 million, or $1.01 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 34.7 percent, up from 33.6 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 41 percent of the quarter's revenue.

Apple shipped 2,611,000 Macintosh computers during the quarter, representing 21 percent unit growth and 17 percent revenue growth over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 11,052,000 iPods during the quarter, representing eight percent unit growth and three percent revenue growth over the year-ago quarter. Quarterly iPhone units sold were 6,892,000 compared to 1,119,000 in the year-ago-quarter.

Wont work off the BES server it runs directly off the exchange server, which I would guess is not directly on the internet. If you have outlook webmail that you use from home you can try that address for the exchange setup on the iphone.

OK... help me out... I am stupid when it comes to this.

So if I type in the https address for webmail in the "Exchange Server" field on my iPhone, it will work?

It might work, no guarantees. Depends on how the security is set on the server for encryption.

try typing in the address and then your username and password and make sure you know your domain.

When you enter your username put it in the following format "domain\username" IF you dont know the name of your domain you can look it up on your machine by right clicking on my computer and going to properties and it will be on the system name tab.

Let me ask you this.

Basically, what I did was I took the info from my MS Outlook on my PC and inputted it into the fields of my phone. Is there a reason this is not working?

It really depends on how your enviornment is setup. Apple made it look like it will easily integrate with exchange servers, which it will do if you setup the way that apple wants.

Looks like I will just keep carrying my BB around for company email.

Our IT Department does not want to help me at all!

I had and iPhone for about a month. Best phone I have ever used, but in my area (NorthEast Pennsylvania) ATT coverage is deplorable. The only way you could make calls was to disable 3G, but even then the poor coverage did not outweigh the "greatness" of the phones. In my opinion the best coverage in my area is Nextel, then Verizon then everyone else. Nextel's phones stink, so I'm with Verizon now. From what I heard the contract with ATT for Apple is up next year so I'm hoping other carriers will pickup the iPhone.
