I took the boat out this weekend and developed a bad leak. I thought it was coming from the prop shaft seal and was right. Oh yea I just installed a new prop so I thought maybe when we put that on it loosened it or something. Anyhow I have tightened that down and stopped the leak but now I have an awful vibration coming from the brass seal bracket or the strut on the underside of the boat.... Just wondering if anyone has seen this and is there some type of seal/gasket in the strut?

Thanks guys!!

Did you try backing off of the shaft seal? You might have tightened it up too much and it is causing some binding of the shaft. I would try back off until you just start to see water, then retighten a 1/4 turn. IIRC, some water is supposed to get up in there to allow for some lubrication, just not soo much that it leaks but one or two drops in a few minutes. Anyone else chime in if I'm right/wrong?

We let ours drop about 6 times a minute. Lasts longer that way, and the bilge pump works fine.

I have never once touched my shaft seal in the 10 years I have owned the boat. Never really payed much attention to the leakage, but I get very little water in the bilge on a normal day. Amy I just lucky?

After 2 nights and 3 days in the water and 5 powerturns at CSM '08 the bath mat under my stuffing box was only half damp. And no, I don't have a dripless shaft log! I just don't understand it, the bilge pump hasn't run and the bottom plug hasn't been out of it in 3 years except for oil changes. Where does all the water go?
