My previous boat was a direct drive and required routine prop shaft alignment checks. I now have a v-drive, does it also require alignment checks?

i've never heard of "routine" allignment checks?

i could see you doing so if you felt a vibration with new or old prop but to check it on a maintenance schedule seems a waste of time.

It's in the maintenance schedule to check the alignment. It should at least be done after the initial run-in period. I had my 07' 197 TT done at 75 hrs. Tolerance is .003" - mine was at .008". No vibration was felt prior to it being corrected to under .003". I plan on checking mine at the end of each season.

the answer is yes, you should check alignment on a v-drive. it is same principal as direct drive, just shorter driver shaft. plus probably harder to do though. how often you check is your preference.
